C reactive protein is highly sensitive. Could it be lupus? My dr is checking for auto immune on me.
CRP highly elevated : C reactive protein is highly... - LUPUS UK
CRP highly elevated
CRP level was 4.5
He will check a bunch of other things too...like you ANA (antibodies) and other stuff if he is looking for Lupus...As I remember CRP means there is inflamation in your body some where, but they are not sure where, just from that test..I think that test is even used for heart disease as well, and they monitor that over a long period of time...It just one piece of the puzzle to help them in their search...I dont know if that helps or not..mine was high CRP and I had an odd ANA pattern, and they thought maybe Lupus, or not...The more symptoms that go along with it...like I think 11 things , then maybe Lupus...
CRP - c-reactive protein - is a very general indicator of inflammation or infection being present in the body and even a chest infection can take its level up to three figures, 4.5 is really not very high at all unless it is the hs-CRP test which is used in some heart conditions and is measured with a slightly different test - did the doctors say "your high sensitivity CRP is raised"?
If so, it isn't necessarily an indicator that you have an acute condition but that you are at risk of cardiovascular problems developing later in life and there are probably things you can do about lifestyle - exercise, diet, not smoking and so on - as well as medication to help. A high ordinary CRP showing you have raised inflammation in the body can be due to all sorts of things, not just lupus, not even autoimmune in general. As dgleds says, they will do all sorts of tests to build up a picture of what may be going on and the CRP is just a start and signpost there may be something wrong.
I have SLE. When my lupus is controlled my CRP sits at around 36. When I flare it's in the late fifties. I wouldn't worry until the tests are done. There are dozens of autoimmune conditions. Good luck
