Does anyone know of a legal way around car tints for medical reasons?

Hey,

So I due to get my new car next month & I suffer something terrible when I am in the sun, even the slightest of sunny days causes great pain whether thats a headache, or the usual Lupus rash.

I find tints work but they cannot be ‘factory fitted’ they need to be darker. I know in America Lupus is a medical reason to have tints on your car & I was wondering if anyone had come across anything like that in the UK?

You can do what you like with the back windows - but you seem to be able to add some tinting to the factory fitted stuff which is minimal I suspect. Good luck

OH is a physicist. He has sourced EVA perspex (museum grade). It is not tinted but shuts out UVA. Like yourself, I am photosensitive and dread the coming warmer weather. It will have to be cut to shape but we plan to fit it to the side windows as these are the main culprit. The front window already has significant UV filter because it's laminated, how much may vary between makes of cars. The perspex would have to be professionally cut to size though. Hope that helps a bit. x

Ah - we have hit a snag - my side windows are curved and he is seeing if it remains possible - check yours and if OK will get the details from him - it never ends does it!! x

Oh no! Hopefully they work. & no Lupus is just never ending. Even with sun cream on after sun anti histamines the rash & the skin peeling is ridiculous. I think my consultant should be doing more to help ease the symptoms, all I am ever told even before I was diagnosed is ‘you are allergic to the sun stay out of it’ 🤦🏾‍♀️

Yes, the lack of information from dermatology is staggering really. Not even a leaflet with useful contacts, sun cream advice for skin types. Less than useful really. I have found Solbari a good source as well as it's UK equivalent Sensibility. x
