Shielding England Update

Hi, just wondering if anyone is in the same boat. My England shielding letter is up until the 21st of feb but Boris Johnson said today he is not reviewing lockdown measures until feb 22nd ! That means my employer is expecting me to return to work on that day .I know Wales have extended their shielding until the 31st of march but no news on England. I have been shielding since last march, doing a mixture of shielding, annual leave, sick leave and unpaid leave and i have now run out of options. I received my 1st vaccine 2 weeks ago and i don't want to fall at the last hurdle. My union rep said to wait for government guidance but my Employer needs to know in advance in order to arrange cover. My job involves dealing directly with members of the public as i work in the Post Office and half of my colleagues have been off sick with covid. Sorry for the long rant but i'm getting extremely stressed out, if anyone is in a similar situation i would apppreciate your advice, thanks.

Could you get a doctor's letter to cover the shortfall in date? Ask your GP or rheumy to write a letter that says until you've had the second vaccine you should continue to shield?

Hi sezvic, everything is ok now as shielding has been extended until the 31st of march, i'm covered as i'm on the shielding list.

Hi..my letter says 27th Feb..so sorry you have all this stress..are the England letters not the same?..my manager (NHS) sent me home informing me to shield until 27th Feb and the letter soon followed..maybe try your GP..I have had both my vacines and still told to sheild

I’ve just read my shielding letter again, it says on there that we will be updated again before this period ends on the 21/02/2021 so I expect we will receive an email or a letter sometime this week.

It’s been on the news, shielding extended until 31/03/21 (I’d copy a link but I’m useless at tech) 😜

I would ask your employers to contact the HR department as this is l think a matter for Occupational Health to step in, your union rep should write to your employers stating that as your employers are well aware of your sheilding status there for you should continue to be shielding until such time as lockdown has been lifted. Hope that helps.

Hi callie, thanks for your advice,OH told me last year that lupus sle should be covered by the disability act, so maybe i can go down that route.

Hi I received another shielding letter about 3 weeks ago mine is now to March 18th and I live in Essex !

I’m in the same situation as you. I work in a special school and mine ends 21st so they are expecting me back on the 22nd. I was thinking about email the hospital that sent me the shielding letter for some advice. As I don’t want to go to work on that Monday or any other days if I’m just waiting for a new shielding letter. Please let us know what you do .

Hi loulamb, if there is no update in a couple of days, i'm going to ask my GP if he will to do me a shielding letter, either way i'm not going back to work on monday !

I think I might do the same. I’m sending an email today. But I wouldn’t be surprised if I don’t hear nothing back in time. My shielding letter came 2 weeks late ! If that fails I’ll call the GP Thursday or Friday.

Hi - I've just opened an e mail today the 16th feb telling me to shield until the end of March, the 31st. It came from the Department of Health and Social Care.

I'm in south Yorkshire, England. If you get one you'll be able to use the print out as proof. I dont work but am considered "extremely clinically vulnerable". I've been shielding since last March.

I just got another email informing me that the shielding will continue until March 31 and there will be a review mid March. The email was from Matt Hancock.

I suppose I will get the same by slow mail in a week or so.

Hi, I am regarded as clinically extremely vulnerable and received an email, from the government, a short while ago today telling me to continue to shield until 31st March. I live in England.

Like yourself I have been shielding since last year however last night I received a email saying I was to continue shielding till 22nd March. Needless to say I was upset and disappointed. I was due to finish shielding on 21st Feb, I have had my first vaccine 2 wks ago without any problems.I do hope you manage to get your situation resolved as the email did say that there were informing 1 1/2 million people of this change.

I got an email yesterday from NHS England extending shielding to 31 March. It said the email could be used with Employers.

I received an email yesterday extending shielding until 31st March. I'm sure you will get it too. Try not to worry too much. Letters are still landing on doormats as we speak!

Received my updated shielding letter in the post today, what a relief to get my uncaring employer off my back, thanks !
