Anyone else find that exposure to second hand smoke makes their overall Lupus symptoms worse? (As well as significantly effecting breathing)
My mum and brother both smoke at home in their bedrooms but the smoke ends up in my bedroom constantly and I feel myself suffering from painful burning eyes, shortness of breath, chest pain, and in general I have noticed more flares as a result.
It's got increasingly bad the past year as I've been shielding and stuck at home constantly. But the past few weeks I've been so breathless I'm worried I'm going to end up in hospital.

Please tell them to smoke outside. A smoker does not understand the effects of their cigarette in their surroundings. Sadly. And it is mostly cultural. Them smoking in their bedroom is enough in their mind to protect you. Keep repeating yourself in a kind tone and say it is impossible to breathe when they smoke at home and it is not about them smoking, it is abut your breathing and that you can not breathe, Try to air your room or even see if you can leave your window slightly, tiny open to have constant fresh air. I know it is cold outside but just an idea. Also try to sit them both on the sofa and explain to them that when they smoke, you can not breathe at all. People hear things but unless you say it in an unexpected way, they wont take notice. I hope you find a way. Also if they insist, perhaps they can put a towel under their door and try to see if they can open their window too. I doubt they will stop their habit but you can also encourage that too.. Electric cigarettes? I feel for you. I hope they take notice of your request and bring a solution to the smoke in your lungs,,, Lots of love, Lale x
So sorry for you, eescvc, I am exactly the same, but luckily family don't smoke, but suffered when people were allowed to smoke in pubs and restaurants, staff rooms, etc. Have you explained to them exactly how it makes you feel and asked them to kindly smoke outside due to your symptoms and reactions - make sure your windows are open if you can unless you live in a town with polluted air. You will need to keep reminding them because it sounds like they are addicted. If you open all the windows and they start to feel cold, they may get the message - one can only hope!
