I booked to get a Microdermabrasian facial and when I was filling out the questionnaire it said that those with certain illness such as Autoimmune Dieseases were unable to proceed. Me and my beautician googled it and medical some articles supported this theory.
I am going to speak to my own doctor but I just wanted to know has anyone had it before and how was it for them?
I only have sun sensitivity with small rashes on my arms, amongst a load of other symptoms. I mainly suffer from the joint pains and arthritis that physically effect me.
I always exfoliate and never had any problems but it was just surprising as I had not known this before and didn't think it would even be an issue for Lupus Warriors.
Any suggestions for alternatives also?

There is undoubtedly an increased risk of infection when you have an autoimmune disorder and it may not heal as well when you have a deranged immune system or are on immunosuppressant medication. It is a bit more than theoretical but how great it is is probably a bit difficult to assess.
I have UCTD with photosensitivity. I had microdermabrasion for years, done by the assistant in a dermatologist’s office. This particular doctor used to run the dermatology clinic at a big rheumatology center. You should run it by your doctor. But I think you should be fine with it. It is a pretty superficial procedure.
There are laser treatments lupus patients can safely have that are much more effective. For that you need to see a knowledgeable dermatologist who knows how different lasers affect photosensitive patients.
There are definitely procedures they won’t do on you. I have had absolutely no problems with any procedure I have had. And happy I was able to take advantage of the newer technologies even with the sun sensitivity!
I used to have microdermabrasion every month and love it. I've never had a problem. Use moisturiser with an spf afterwards. I bought my own little machine from Argos during lockdown and now use it monthly. Enjoy it if you go ahead. It's a lovely treat and your face looks amazing afterwards. X
