Hi Vince welcome to the group - mostly women on here as it’s less common that men get lupus but there’s lots of people here with lots of experience x

Thankyou all for your responses, I didn't realise that it affected women more then men but hey I'm sure yous lovely ladies can keep my spirits up when feeling low, which I'm some cases is more often, although im not to sure if it's because of lupus or my liver disease x

90 % of lupus sufferers are women.garlic and onions are a couple to avoid and chilli seems to irritate my stomach now x

Oh yes us ladies will definitely cheer you up when your having a bad time of it - I’ve never noticed any specific foods that flaire my lupus up - I can recommend bone broth though, I’ve been taking it for about 8 months now and definitely seen a difference in my symptoms x

Yes I seem to get a groggy stomach when eating currys etc!,is this to do with lupus then,

I'm Indian. There's no way I can avoid onions, garlic or spice! LOL!

But seriously, I'm not altogether certain any foods affect me. I've been paranoid in the past as I've read mushrooms can trigger a flare, so avoided mushrooms for ages (and to be honest, I'm not a big fan of mushrooms anyway). But for me, garlic, onions and spice is a must for all my foods - Mexican, Italian, Spanish and Indian.

You can always do a trial and see how you feel after eating small amounts.

Yes thanks I've never really thought about what foods to avoid,I shall now delve deeper into checking before eating, but I do love a good curry,so surf if you have any recipes you can send me,I'd love to try them 🥵 as far as mushrooms go I wouldn't no mate as never liked them,x

I have lots of recipes. I'll try and post some on here this weekend.

Currys I tend to make make as I go along. The basics of any curry is garlic, onions, ginger (I use very little ginger paste as I don't like ginger that much and HATE the raw stuff), and the basic spices - garam masala, tumeric, coriander powder (again, no real coriander as I hate the stuff), a little cummin and chilli powder. Then your main ingredients. I'm vegetarian so use potatoes, cauliflower, peas, courgettes... and pretty much any vegetable. Not a big fan of paneer, so try and avoid that. Salt, pepper to taste.

Gosh, reading that back I sound like the most weirdest of Indians!!! Don't like raw ginger. Don't like coriander. Don't like paneer. And TBH, up until a few years back, couldn't take too much chilli!!!!! LOL!

I'm great as I have no work :-D I'm going to go and finish off a great documentary I was watching last night until I fell a sleep on the sofa. It's called Sunshine Superman and is about base jumping. It's currently free on Amazon Prime and I highly recommend it.

And how are you doing?

Hi Vince. Welcome to the group. Specific foods don't affect me but there are different types of lupus. As for the memory loss, my nickname by my sisters is 10 second Tom (from a film called 50 first dates). I can be in mid sentence and totally forget what I was saying. Its frustrating but I try to laugh it off and write everything down. In the lupus community we affectionately call it Lupus Fog. There are so many amazing people in this group that can help with advice and support any time of day. Keep smiling. 😃
