Hydroxychloroquine Covid 19 prevention

I saw an article on tropicalmedicine.ox.ac.uk saying that hydroxychloroquine has been disregarded as a preventative for covid too soon. Until recently I had no reason to argue. But over the last week my partner and my daughter came down with covid symptoms but apart from a very slightly runny nose I had no symptoms what so ever... at one point my partner had a fever of 39.8... it was scary watching them suffer while I seemed unscathed. Anyone else had similar?

Nothing similar to report. Just to say that I am taking hydroxychloroquine only, for lupus and I received a goverment's letter putting me into the shielding category because of my lupus.

Your experience gives me some hope.

It didn’t help for me, although maybe if I hadn’t been taking it my experience would have been worse. I am now categorised as having long Covid.

I do believe that as many long Covid sufferers are prescribed HQ for their symptoms that it is still a beneficial drug as so much of Covid attacks the autoimmune system.

Do you know for sure that what they had was Covid? I would tend to think that - as the evidence to date says hydroxychloroquine is not protective, then maybe what they had was not Covid.

I am thoroughly convinced that hydroxy, along with zinc, vitamin C (and azithromycin if you experience covid symptoms) are excellent in prevention and treatment for covid. But, as stated in the document you posted, it must be done as preventive or early treatment before symptoms progress. Multiple private physicians have staked their practice on this and have had great success. Plus, a limited study out of France showed lots of promise. And a doctor from Yale also supports its use. I feel that because it is not a money maker, it is being hushed--not to mention the politics involved have undercut this treatment potential. I am taking hydroxy for my autoimmune condition and I do not fear covid.

I appreciate the article. Thank you for sharing it. Just to clarify-- I don't fear Covid 19 just because I take hydroxy. I just choose not to live in fear of it. But I will respect others and do what I can to protect others from getting it.

This I understand. You did not have to target me AND post this later in the thread. I advocate for people to do the right thing.
