There are alot of hedgehog watchers out there ๐. Have you spotted youโre hedgehog visitor lately? Xxx
There being better looked after now that their endangered weathervane!. We've had our regular one come and then some extras!. Watch out for my next photo. Hope your as well as poss. Xx
I have two nightly prickly visitors. I have a very fussy cat who likes to lick the gravy off her meat and leave the chunks, which the hedgehogs love unless I make the mistake of giving them the fishy meals! In the spring, I had three extras coming into my garden, with just one thing on their minds. It's hilarious watching the males circling the females (who just carry on regardless), snorting loudly while looking for a safe way in!
That's lovely tulle that your feeding two hedgehogs. Aren't they wonderful to watch, they're my therapy at night when they come. It's great too they get on with your cat so well. Cats don't seem to mind them at all. It's lovely your helping to keep them going and making such a difference. Keep safe and wellXx
So cute - I havenโt seen a hedgehog ๐ฆ in quite a few years xx
Hello misty
Cute picture.
Bizarrely growing up in Bristol I saw a lot more hedgehogs, than I have done living here in the country side.
I remember particularly my parents finding a mother hedgehog and her babies in our garden shed, she must have taken shelter there to give birth.
Since living here I've only seen 2 on two separate occasions, perilously close to main roads.
I feel sorry for my children not seeing them so much, as I did. We have a garden where we get pheasant and lots of rabbits etc but no hedgehogs.
They do seem to be in small numbers now.
Pleased to hear they are being protected.
Wendy x
That seems weird doesn't it lovely Wendy but I guess it depends which areas they are in. Your garden sounds quite rural if you get pheasant. You coukd put out some water and cat or dog food in jelly to see if you have one !.
It does seem awful that a lot of kids like yours won't get to see these different mammals etc.
Do hope your back to school preparations are going well. An extra worry for you all this year so I hope you all keep safe and well. Xx
Adorable. You find the best pictures!
Lovely, we have two hedgehogs in our garden and see them a lot when going down to the chooks at night, recently they ventured down to patio, . I feed them regularly and put water out , the way our garden is it is a haven for them so I hope they breed. The squirrels do And have youngsters but sadly there was a dead one yesterday gotten by a cat by the looks of it, So nice to have these lovely creatures around , on the radio last week they said 10 years ago there was 3 million in the uk today there is not even a million. ๐ข

Wonderful to hear stiff you have two hedgehogs like us that your feeding. It feels good doesn't it to be doing some good but also we're getting so much out of it too!. ?. Sounds like you have a lot going on in your garden that must give you a lot to do/watch. Enjoy and keep safe and well.Xx
Yes misty youโre right we do get a lot out of it ๐ itโs nice to think we are helping the dwindling numbers. Yes lots going on many mouths to feed ๐๐๐ I love nature and wildlife as you do so happy days ๐๐
You too keep safe and well ๐ xx
Hi Misty,
My hubby did a special study of hedgehogs as part of his degree course and has remained very fond of them - we both are. ๐ฅฐ However although we have a wild hedgerow on one side of our property with a field of cows on the other side of it, we have never seen a hedgehog in our garden in all the 15 years weโve been here yet our previous property in this village up beside the main road, had a hedgehog visit every night hoovering up the ground bird table we had for ground feeders. Isnโt that strange? Theyโd be so much safer here yet weโve never seen one.
When I lived on a small island the owner introduced a few hedgehogs from the mainland to his large garden to keep down slugs and snails. But they soon left his garden and enjoyed a diet of the eggs of ground nesting birds like the ringed plover and shearwaters. Their numbers began to plummet as the hedgehogs grew in number until such time as an animal charity had to remove the hedgehogs from the island and rehome them on the mainland. It just goes to show how important it is not to introduce species to a place they donโt naturally occur as they have no natural predators and can play havoc with the local wildlife.
But if you know of a hedgehog or two looking for a good home, weโd love to have them. ๐๐ Thanks so much for posting Misty. ๐ค๐
Thank you spotty for your lovely reply. I'm thrilled you both like hedgehogs despite what happened on the island. It does seem strange your living in such an ideal place for them and don't have them!. It just goes to show they set up camp where they feel happiest which might not always be the safest place!. I like them because they're not afraid to be themselves and they can also travel long distances when they're out!.
It's so true having to be careful when re-introducing species. Wasn't their similar problems when wild boar were re-introduced into the wild?.
We feed a couple of hedgehogs so I'll send one up to you!. Thank you too for your pm's. I will reply but not soon because I've got a busy end to this week and don't feel very good.
Have a safe and lovely bank holiday. TAKE CAREXx๐๐๐
Is it a bank holiday again? They seem to come round so quickly.
Have a lovely weekend Misty and I hope you feel better soon. Take care. ๐ค๐๐
Thank you Misty14 have a great week x
I love hedgehogs. I have rescued a few babies in the past and taken them to the vet. They have done well in the hedgehog sanctuary. My neighbour did say that she has one in her garden but I have not seen any this year. Thanks for sharing the cuteness Misty ๐xx
Lovely little chap๐ฆ we have hedgehogs visit us most years.
This year was a bonus as we had 4 babies rummaging around as well. ..
They like to come out just as its getting dark. I get so much joy from them๐
That's wonderful daisy days. We've not seen many youngsters but share the adults with two other neighbour's!. We compare notes and I love watching them at night too!. It's my therapy so glad you like them too. It's good to see so many youngsters , good hope for the future for them. Keep enjoying them and stay safe and well. Xx๐
๐hedgehogs!! We've had one visit the garden this year but I don't think it was too keen on the dog!! ๐ถ๐ฆ
Thank u for sharing misty ๐ค๐๐ฝ๐ฝxx
Hi krazykat, they're not too keen on dogs!. What breed is she?. Lovely you had one visit as they're so endangered now!. Hope your keeping as well as possible. Xx๐
Jack Russel ๐ถ!!
We put water out n of course when dogs not around who knows who'll visit the garden? We've had a recent visitor who we did see..a sparrowhawk seems to like our garden/hunting ground..first time it caught a sparrow which was a magical wildlife moment..then s couple of days later it caught a pidgeon!! The pidgeon was twice it's size!!
I have got pics but the pidgeon ones not for the squeamish!!
๐๐ฝ๐ฝXx
We havenโt had a hedgehog in the garden for a number of years , i was wondering if it was due to the number of pet cats round about?
There are 4 regular cats who come visiting , prowling for birds . I dont mind the cats visiting but if i see them going after birds i have to intervene and rap the window . One of the cats usually turns to look at me as if to say โโ Really? That was my snackโโ
Hi weathervane, we've got quite a few cats roundabout like you . Our hedgehogs share themselves with two other close neighbour's so we compare notes which is nice!.
Hedgehogs don't mind cats too much but maybe four at a time is a lot. That's also a nuisance for you so I don't wonder you shoo them away!. Cats are tinkers when it comes to birds, it's a delicate balancing act isn't it to give all the animals a chance!. Do you feed the birds?.
Any hospital news weathervane?. I've left a message with the Colonoscopy booking dept to find out where I am on waiting list!. Shoukd get a call back by the weekend. Keep well and safe. Xx
Hi misty, i do feed the bird , ive really enjoyed watching our blackbird and his wife , great song bird .
I think youโre right to check up on where you are on the list , good to let them know again that you can take a cancellation. Enjoy the bank holiday weekend xxxx
That's great weathervane that you feed the birds and enjoy them. Thanks for your good wishes. They can't do cancellations because of the covid restrictions and test needed beforehand!. Did you do one before yours?. Have a good weekend too. Xx๐๐๐
