I grew up with lots of pain and swelling in my joints but has I got to my 20s although I had pain occasionally I thought nothing of it. I recently ask for my medical records from the hospital. It said lupus I never really thought much about this has I have diabetes type 1 I had in my 20s but of late I get pain in my back hands elbows and shoulders is possible for me to still have lupus. Any help please. Regards john

Sounds like it would help to read the information leaflets LUK has posted here. Maybe the one on symptoms and diagnosis is a good place to start lupusuk.org.uk/publications/
Once you've got a handle on things, you might want to keep a diary of symptoms for a couple of weeks or so and head to your GP. Ask the questions that are most troubling = and dont give up until you're satisfied with the answers.
Most people spend years before they get a definitive diagnosis for the kind of variable and diverse symptoms that lupus and its relatives produce.
Do keep in touch here - lots of us have experienced difficult diagnostic journeys and might have tips and ideas to help. x
to add to Whisperit's precise comments, you could have lupus and may never have a visible flare up for years or never flare up in your life (if you are fortunate enough) or have very mild attacks. Therefore if they diagnosed you when you were a child and somehow you got better, it is well possible that you may not have noticed something different particularly if you got used to living with pain or swollen joints.
I had my first flare up about the age of 16 with a mini stroke but they thought because I was dieting (teenager years). My second one at 26 and doctors thought because of contraception tablets and I was in an air plane. There comes the age 32, I had a massive lupus attack (triggered by cat scratch disease) and it has been with me everyday ever since. With very best, Lx
Hi everyone Just a quick update so ana test came back normal. But my crp came back abnormal I keep getting bad back pain and shoulders elbows are aching feeling really down not like me. Exhausted all other blood test ok.
Hello, a lot of individuals who have the onset of lupus with clear symptoms and visual aspects from it don’t actually have to have a positive ANA. There are individuals that have got a positive ANA but they have no symptoms whatsoever.
