3 so far but mum has been sitting on them a lot so might be more as blackbirds usually have 5

The wonder, peaceful chicks dosing while mum and dad are off gathering food and feeding...the nest is so close to the ground? That's a beautiful pic, thank you xxx

They know when they've found a safe spot, close to food! :) xxx

hard for them to find food it's so dry here only about 1mm of rain this month. the worms have gone south so I water the grass trying to bring them back up

Rain just started here, and the smell of petrichor, yum! I've splashed out since I'm saving on travel to work and put tinned tripe out for them...but it attracts all the local pets with its delicious smell! Maybe I'll invest in mealworms and soak them to plump them up xxx

didn't know you could get tinned tripe unless you mean butchers dog meat, mandy doesn't like the smell

Happily my nose isn't so sensitive, yes the branded stuff :) ...you can buy 'green tripe' frozen online ie raw...it was all my dog's sister would eat, eeek, I came off lucky there...reckon I could smell it defrosting ! xxx

Wonderful Suzannah, very special time of year this is for births. Do keep us posted. You might be interested in a BTO bird survey. if you google BTO you'll see it. Keep safe and well.Xx

Hi Suzannah

Will keep an eye on my pair of blackbirds...figure we may get some babies...

Do they normally nest there in your garden? And low to the ground? I want to make sure our little dog doesn't come across them...lovely photo..ml

about eye level, some years a little higher in different trees

Great will tell hubby who us enthusiastically gardening, trimming & tiding around...

Looks nice but, did say he made it to easy for a sparrowhawk to zoom in to our bird feeders, he was appalled that he made an easier for birds of prey....move the feeders asap...seems 👌 ok.....

He stopped trimming for a while, lesson learned...ml

we get sparrow hawks too, strange but the only birds they don't eat are sparrows. last year all our nests had stoats taking the chicks and eggs. saw the little devils climbing up the trees.

Lovely pic suzannah 🤗

I love the song of the blackbird!! Please keep posting on progress of these little chicks!! 🌈😽😽Xx

I can't actually make out what is in the picture.

Probably just me with dodgy eyes

Is it eggs or chicks?

Ignore last comment. Just enlarged the picture and can see them. Well camouflaged.

Lovely photo and adorable wee chicks. 👍🏻👍🏻 Our blackbirds eat a mixture of porridge, dried fruit and suet. We feed them every day and they are waiting for hubby to arrive with breakfast every morning. Sadly our blackbird population has been decimated by prowling cats, but we still have a few. Keep us posted how they get on. Is that a wall behind them? They look happy and secure. 👍🏻 I wish them well. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Thanks Suzannah. 🤗😘

That’s great protection for them. No wonder they like it there. 👍🏻👍🏻

Take care. 🤗😘
