I have just made some Fire Cider.

It's a traditional recipe that's supposed to ward off cold and flu symptoms. I have been planning on doing a trial for ages but kept finding a reason not to.

But with time on my hands and most of the most often used ingredients available I decided to give it a try.

Just need to wait 2-4 weeks to see how it turns out.

Google it. There are many variations. But most often used ingredients are

Onion, garlic, chilli, tumeric, horseradish which I didn't have, oregano, thyme. Topped up with apple cider vinegar and honey.

Now I just have to wait and see how it develops.

If others try we could do a taste test in a few weeks 😁.

I went on a cider farm tour and was told that in the past workers would asked to be paid in cider as they believed it prevented things like hay fever when they were working in the fields. Anyway, whether it works or not, you won’t mind after a few :)

I don't think it is cider as in cider. I think the key word is FIRE.

Some people say it gives you dragon breath. Enough to frighten away most bugs.

I have never made it before so it's all a bit of a learning experience.

People say the horseradish makes it really hot. I didn't have any of that so I added several chillies with their seeds. They were supposed to be milder chillies but with the seeds as well it could end up explosive.

You normally take it by the teaspoon or add it to drinks, sauces or marinades apparently.

With all the news media ramping up the health alerts I thought it might be something useful to have available.

Lovely idea, however one word of caution turmeric although known as anti-inflammatory unfortunately is not always suitable for people with Lupus. I'm fine with turmeric ,so I might give this a try, although I personally find chilli too much for me, so may omit that as an ingredient

Look it up. People seem to have their own variations.

One of the constants seems to be horseradish but I didn't have that.

I have just made another jar of garlic and honey. Crushed cloves of garlic steeped in honey.

If nothing else I will have some interesting condiments on the go.

I haven't got a huge sweet tooth.

We have a bit too much soft fruit and some ripe bananas

Mashing the bananas and whizzing the fruit then blending together and freezing will make a rather nice ice cream
