Has anyone used Methotrexate to manage their symptoms?

I've been prescribed but wondered how people have found it?

Thanks

Hi yes I have been on methotrexate for the last 3 years and it’s very well tolerated- I know a lot of people get nauseous with it but I take it no problem at all xx

I have been on Methotrexate for several years and swear by it ! My symptoms have been very well controlled since I started on it & my rheumy is happy with the results. I know it doesn't work for everybody but when it does work it is very effective . Good luck - I hope it works for you !!

Hi, would you mind telling me your dose or of you had any side effects?

I'm really apprehensive about taking it.

Your message is quite reassuring.

I am now on 15mg , taken on a Saturday, and I have had no side effects at all. Hope it works as well for you.

Hi I inject 22.5mg once a week (I started on tablets at a lower amount). It does make me feel a little nauseous the day after but it is the best thing I have taken for helping my symptoms. It affects everyone differently but it is certainly worth giving a go and seeing how you get on with it. Any issues just let your consultant know and they should be able to adjust things to help you. Try not to worry, I hope it works well for you :-)

My mother in law is a new woman on it. Joint pain dramatically reduced and is more mobile. Sadly, I did not tolerate it. But it is worth the effort as when it does work it’s brilliant. All drugs are scary-focus in the outcomes it could bring you

Hit Kat, I’m now three weeks in and my skin is starting to clear! Having some days of extreme fatigue but I’m going to persevere. At the moment I’m only taking one folic acid tablet a week and I wondered if you take more than that?

That's great news Barbara!! 💐💐🥂🥂🎉🎉

With the folic acid u have to take one tablet every day EXCEPT on the day u have methotrexate..so u should be on six tablets per week rather than just one.

I'm so pleased it's working it's magic on your skin too!! 🤗🤗🤗

Thanks for speedy reply. The consultant said one folic acid per week but the 🌟GP said she thought 6 would be better for me so she’s put folic acid on my repeat prescription and she gave me two months supply to start me off so I think I probably need to up the dose. I’m off hydroxychloroquine too after five years so my body will be adjusting to that too.

Yes your GP is right!! My dermy prescribed mine n he explained that it's so that the methotrexate can work efficiently..it uses the folic acid apparently..so it's a combination of the two that we have to take!!
