A couple of months ago I wrote about unexplained weight loss. The hospital have started looking into it with a multi disciplinary approach. I was fortunate to see the Rheumatologist and Respiratory consultants at the same appointment. They are arranging a stomach scan, chest scan and another full pulmonary lung function test before my next Respiratory clinic appointment in Feb. I’ve lost 11kg since January. I was also told I have mitral regurgitation, aortic thickening and left ventricle thickening.
A video swallowing test was also done which showed that my swallow is reduced and liquids are entering my airways. They are starting to think that the swallowing problems are exacerbating my cough and have prescribed a thickener for fluids and double swallowing. They also think that perhaps my lungs are getting slightly worse which is causing my body to use extra energy and loose body weight. I think the stomach scan is just a precautionary check because of the weight loss.
They seem to be doing their very best to help sort it.
Sorry I haven’t been on much lately but I’ve not felt well enough. I will try and participate more.
Happy Christmas and the best health possible to everyone xxx

Thank you for updating us, Meg52. We were all concerned about your weight loss. It does sound like your doctors are trying to get to the bottom of it. You have a lot to contend with.
Hope you have answers and successful treatment soon.
Thank you KayHimm. The low gas transfer and lack of energy just makes everything so difficult. I feel as if they are taking it seriously so hopefully I will start improving soon. xxx
I’m so sorry you’re going through the mill like this. At least you see the consultants together,it saves so much time. They can commune directly instead of by email.
They do seem to be taking it Seriously.
Have you seen a dietcan,? Perhaps you would benefit from some of the high calorie drinks.
Hi dear, i lost about almost 10kg in a span of 2 months last dec-jan. Got all possible scans and biopsy. Got finally myself SLE-vesculities. My kidneys were not working properly. After a year of continuous check and medication, I m doing better. Though I have not gained weight but I definitely have better strength.
So, all the best my friend. U will soon get the appropriate answers to your questions. Take care of yourself...
That’s a lot of weight to lose in such a short time, you must have felt dreadfully tired. I’m sorry to hear about your kidneys but I’m pleased to hear you’re getting your strength back.
If I can get some strength back I feel that I could mentally cope with most things.
So thank you for your positive message. Wishing you a happy Christmas and New Year.
