I’ve been very busy after all the fantastic input from all you Lupies since my first post about UTIs and pools. I searched and enquired about a local salt pool as Maye suggested, but the nearest is more than 30 miles away so no good for regular use. So I took Aged Crone’s advice and have bought a pair of waterproof neoprene swim shorts designed for faecal incontinence. However although they have a seal on each leg, the waistband is simply made of Lycra so I’m sure will allow seepage reaching parts I’d rather it didn’t! So my husband has said he’d line the waist with latex using a special glue for drysuits, so all is not lost yet. Unfortunately I couldn’t try the shorts yet anyway as I’m having a flare and have a rash all over my torso, legs and arms a few of which are quite large lesions (around 2cm) and now my hairline and scalp have the rash too. I’ve been under a lot of stress in recent months and was on Lanzoprozole for 3 months but came off it 3 days ago after reading about the relationship of PPIs and flares on this site. My rheumatologist did wonder if it had something to do with the rash. So we’ll see. Anyway, once the rash has died down I’ll give the swim shorts a go and will use Vaseline or coconut oil for extra protection, and will take the baking soda solution Neuronerd recommended to avoid infection. I’ll let you all know how I get on.
Thanks all of you for your support and suggestions as well as reassuring me that I’m not alone with these strange symptoms and limitations. It really helps me more than I can say.
