I hope you are well and had a nice weekend! This weekend has been an odd one for me with the brain fog and memory issues, I've woke up this morning to some wet washing in the basket that I've forgot to hang up. I can’t remember conversations that have happened 5 minutes ago and the amount of times I went into a room and forgot the reason was unbelievable… I hope this doesn’t become a constant feature because it really gets me down
.
Can anyone help me out with some tips to help memory issues?
Thanks,
Leenie x

I’ve had memory problems since my near fatal closed head injury at age seven.
I write notes use timers and leave things in view (pill bottle to remind me about them) to aid me. It works most of the time great.
I have Fibro fog and suspected Lupus so a lot of foggy moments. Sometimes I forget in just a few seconds after doing/hearing something. It isn’t consistent but with flaring stress painsomnia and hypoglycemia drops.
ooh that must have been hard at such a young age, you're so brave!
That's such a good idea to use timers, think i'll do that with my washing because the amount of times I've gone to put another load on and its already got some wet (from god knows how long) is beyond me...
Isn't it annoying how it can be so little time to forget things completely? I am often talking to my partner and forget mid sentence!
You can also get calendars that are like dry erase boards. You can customize them for appointments and deadline dates. Dry erase boards are great too.
When I’m down to the last bit of products or meds I turn the bottle upside down (only if product won’t leak out) to remind me to write it on my grocery /reorder list.
I keep grocery list pads with magnets on the back on my refrigerator.
I write dates I made or opened foods to help prevent poisoning on my food covers... use masking tape and permanent markers.
I label all keys to help in future use.
I keep lists of loaned items/money for later reminders. Be sure to put name on items loaned out.
You’re not alone sweetie I frequently will forget what I’m saying to my hubby. We’re used to it by now but still frustrating.
I keep notes on medical symptoms and a homemade chart for hubby and I made lists of all meds used. All the details of doses strengths etc and allergies listed. Blood types. Doctors names and phone numbers that we take with us when we leave our home. Very useful at doctors/hospital visits.
My hubby has heart disease. I carry emergency meds for him in my small medical case in my purse plus my Epi Pen too.
If I remember the other things I use to help with memory aids I’ll list them later.
oh wow that's so organised! I'm going to take some of these on board for sure the one with meds is a must I am always running out and annoying the doctors for last minute prescriptions!
I can imagine it will be hard going if you and hubby are both poorly, thank you so much for sharing your tips with me x
I did have a pill organiser and need to dig mine out, I'm the same as DaftCat with the inhailers I ended up ordering a couple so I could have one in my drawer at work, one in my handbag and another in my bedroom that way I have one if my asthma gets worse and I remember to take them morning and night
I am sorry you are experiencing memory issues. I had two major strokes last year and could orginally not remember my name, address, age and had severe aphasia. I found working with a speech pathologist, who helped with recall by using games and exercises and a cognitive psychiatrist who administered tests to find my worst areas of damage for me was so important in my recovery.
There is much new information on ways that help early cognitive patients keep from progressing quickly. Walking at least thirty minutes per day, yoga, social interaction, puzzles and word games and meditation have been shown to all prevent further decline in both cognitive patients and their care takers, who statistically are at a very high risk to also develop dementia.
I also use Alexa, timers and note paper all the time just incase I still forget things like kid pickups, appointments and to turn off the stove. I use two containers found in drug stores to sort meds, one by my coffee for am meds and one on night stand with pm doses sorted by days of the week to ensure I do not over or under dose. I still have young kids and cats in and out of the house so prefer the safety weekly containers to keeping meds out.
oh wow that must have been really hard! I like to do yoga and I have a dog I walk so its good to know they help with memory I've been thinking about purchasing an Alexa but never got round to it. I used to put stuff on a list but then I would lose the list so an electronic version sounds the best way forward. Thank you so much for sharing your tips x
I put appointments in my phone and I do write things down but sometimes the list goes missing, maybe a little notepad would be better rather than post it notes or scraps of paper!
I forgot to also say that I keep a handbag size diary and I write all appts and reminders in it and it stays in my bag or on the table for easy access!
Ask at the newsagent maybe or a supermarket that sells stationery. Mine is about 6 inches by 8 inches in size with a section for each day within a weekly layout.
haha I understand what you meant, I've just ordered a small diary from amazon think it is 10cm by 15cm so it'll fit my bag nicely thanks for sharing! x
Can I ask if your memory fog comes with a headache? It's just I get an awful one and then I can't really 'think' or process or make decisions. Is this brain in fog? My mum has a blackboard on the wall and she writes giant sized reminders on there.
Sometimes I have headaches it can be at the front on my forehead or other times more around my eyes, other times I am really tired and it gets to a point where conversations are hard to hold up. We have a little whiteboard on our fridge for our meals and I have a section for food shopping so I'll note on when we run out of things there and then. Its a lifesaver and saved me a fortune as I don't buy things I already have
We published a blog article on ‘Coping with Brain Fog’ which contains tips and information that I hope you will find useful lupusuk.org.uk/coping-with-...
