Hi,I’m on cortisone drug at the moment for ck muscles inflammation but why am I losing weight ? I’m a bit scared there’s something else going on , I’m going to see the rheumatologist the 11 July , I will ask him and he ‘ll see that I lost weight from my last check up . I’m worried in case there’s something else going on and theY blame the weakness, tiredness ets on SLE and maybe is something totally different.

I’m sorry everyone, I’ve been posting lots of depressing posts lately but I’m so stressed and worry and this is the only place who gives me comfort .

Thank you everyone 💕💕

Some people do lose weight on pred - we have several on the PMRGCA forum! Of course it is always the people who don't really need to lose weight. Yes, you are right it needs checking out - but it could just as well being the pred.

When you say "ck muscle inflammation" do you mean your CK level is raised? That means there is damage to the muscles and that alone will cause weight less.

Yes is raised over 3000, I thought that could cause weight loss too. They’re thinking to give me intravenous steroids but I’m not sure , probably I won’t have any other options.

Yes - that IS a bit high!!!! must be a fair bit of muscle damage. A short burst of i.v. steroids is very effective. A bit interesting at the time for some but it might get a quick result with the myopathy,

The sad thing is that has been high for ages , the only reason they told me is because I’ve been to the GP complain about how weak I felt and the gp sent me for some blood tests and was ck 3500 , when he looked the history of my bloods was already 2000 back in February but the rheumatologist ignored , I wonder if they bother to look the results at all. From now on I’ll ask a print out of my results bc I don’t trust them at all.

I am assuming muscle atrophy, side effects of prednisone and stress to the body of being so ill are the causes of weight lose but Just incase are you up to date on gyn exams, colonoscopy, and mammograms? Are your bowel movements regular? Any bloating with this weight lose? I too think we are always very quick to blame our known diagnosis on all symptoms and it is important to keep up on our other non autoimmune screenings while being treated for our autoimmune diseases. Good luck.
