Please help . . Need suggestions for skin issue

Hi all ;) I have had a very red and inflamed heel on one foot for over a year now. Every couple of weeks the skin peels off in very large thick pieces. The area affected seems to get a bit larger with every peel. I treated with 4 different anti-fungal meds, but none helped. Now I am treating with a steroid cream but this doesn't seem to be helping either. . .it may be even getting worse. I am just wondering if anyone here has had issued like this . . and if so what they did to help? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Have you been referred to a dermatologist? Needs expert input ...

Yes. He gave me a prescription anti fungal cream that I used having already tried all of the over the counter meds. When that didn't work he decided it must be Eczema or Psoriasis and so prescribed the steroid cream that I am currently using but that seems to not be helping.

Has he had the skin examined by the laboratory? He sounds as if he is working by guesswork - not good enough ...

Hi . . yes I suppose you are right. I will try to do that. I did go to a foot doctor who basically said the same thing as the dermatologist. He mentioned that both of these conditions can manifest in many strange ways. I will continue with the steroid cream for another week (I have been using for one week) and if it doesn't help, I will look for a new Dermatologist. Thanks!

Oh and no .. . neither doctor has sent the skin to a lab. I had expected that to be done by now but it hasn't :(

Hi I think you need to be seen by a dermatologist who can tell the difference between eczema and psoriasis for starters as the two are totally different visually.

Ask your GP to refer you to another dermatologist for a second opinion as the least this one should of done was a swab test and maybe a biopsy.

Good luck and hopefully someone will get their act together and get to the bottom of this and start you on the right course of treatment.

Hi lupette

I have SCLE n my hands n feet have all been really badly affected..I have had ulceration on both feet n have to dress them every three days currently!! I'm wondering what steroid cream your using..I've got betamethasone which I find best..otherwise known as betnovate..but I do have dermovate as well which is stronger strength steroid ointment..I don't use dermovate that often!! I also use Dermol lotion which helps to moisturise the skin..I wash with it because I can't use soap n then moisturise with it again afterwards..all of these r prescribed by my dermatologist xx
