Hi, yesterday my GP said blood tests came back positive for Lupus. The tests were taken due to unexplained blood clots in my lungs. Other than arthritis in my fingers I don't seem to have the common symptoms. I am also a 57 year old male. Anyone else with a similar scenario or know of a positive blood test being wrong

Hi Rob1961 ,

Do you know if you had positive blood test results for systemic lupus erythematosus such as antinuclear antibodies (ANA) and anti-DNA antibodies?

Based on the test being due to a blood clot, I am wondering if it could have been a lupus anticoagulant blood test you had a positive result for instead? Lupus anticoagulant is actually used in the diagnosis of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). You can read more about this at aps-support.org.uk/about-ap...

Thanks Paul, that makes more sense. GP called last night and said positive Lupus result and did not elaborate. Having looked up APS I'd say it's that. Appreciate your reply Paul. Feel I know what I'm looking at now. Thanks again
