Getting used to the “new normal”

Hello everyone

I have collected some more AI related conditions in the last 4 months such as autoimmune gastritis, Costochondritis and suspected Sjogrens. I feel a bit punch drunk at the onset of the ailments, getting used to new meds (omeprazole for the tum, eye drops, saliva spray for the dryness etc) and the ongoing management of them all. Anyway, I thought I’d reach out to you peeps as you understand 🤗.

In my quarterly Rheumy appointment last week, after going through all the medical stuff he started talking holistically about the big health changes that have happened to me and how I must start getting used to and embracing the “new normal”. I was a bit surprised as I wasn’t expecting a philosophical style of conversation but it was refreshing and re-assuring all the same. He said that I can’t expect to live at the pace and level of activity that I used to and to just accept the fact that I must stop when I need to and adapt what I do in life to the level of health I have now.

Anyway, I just wondered if any of you had any similar chats with Rheumys?

I thought you might like the cake - a slice of “zebricorn” or “unibra” anyone? Take your pick - it’s the new normal for me! 🤣

I haven't had a chat with a doc about it..but I have come to accept that this is the way it is now for me n I definitely think it's helping me to deal with my wolf..I don't like it but now I'm coming to accept it n find other ways of doing things...which ain't very much tbh but it is what it is!!

Unibra for me please..just a small piece coz I'm watching my weight what with the steroids etc!! 😉xx

A slither of Unibra coming right up KK! It’s a healthy cake packed with all the stuff that’s good for Lupies!

Yeah I feel similar - it is an acceptance of how life is now and finding work arounds. I have worked hard at trying not to compare myself to how I was, which is probably the toughest thing I’ve had to deal with whilst wandering around in the wolf wilderness....but then again it’s so helpful to be able to share thoughts and stuff on LUK and I have learnt so much from people’s posts and replies.

Anyway, I hope you and Ermintrude are managing to get and have some fun - and if you have room in your tum, I have some slices of Zebricorn for you to try!

Hope you have a good day and are feeling ok 🍰Xx

Hi Dawn, sorry to hear that you have gastritis- and not very nice to have caught it from your carers’ poor hand hygiene. I hope you start to feel better soon x
