I have fibro/polymyalgia and have nerve pain all over my body, I never know where or when it will hit. I have not had it feel like it's in the roots, just on my scalp. That is usually the fibromyalgia. My Sister has the same with her fibro. I hope this helps you.
I’ve experienced this feeling- I describe it like nettle rash under my skin. It’s unpleasant rather than painful & is mainly isolated to my scalp / face. I have lupus but think I’ve also got fibromyalgia but never been diagnosed ( or even discussed it with anyone) I was prescribed amitryptiline a few years ago for shoulder pain / impingement & hey presto the odd scalp sensation has almost gone. I’ve kept on it even tho my shoulder is repaired now as it’s helped so many lupus / sleep issues too.
Good luck & hope you get some relief from it soon

I find a gentle drainage massage every day keeps this pain at bay.
Look up lymp drainage techniques. Start very slowly and gently and build up. At first I could hardly touch my head, neck, upper arms and chest region but now I can do my drainage every day. If I miss a day I can feel it becoming painful again. It takes a few weeks to feel a difference. Hope this is helpful
