Hello Zohreh,
I too suffer from very dry, crusty and cut hands, but generally only around this time of year. I apply a product called Hard Working Hands and it seems to keep the majority of it at bay. I am a guy in his late 40’s and don’t particularly like to “moisturise” but apart from a little embarrassment I don’t care, anything is better than pain from somewhere else I don’t need! Apply liberally before going to bed and as often as possible during the day. Hope it works for you!
Good Health

Hi wolf , thanks for your information , I’m trying to get this ASAP. When my lupus attacted me (before taking hydroxychloriquine ) I had some quite big spots under my fingers and my toes my Dr prescription me Elocon cream which I’m using few times a day . ( I also apply coconut oil every times. Its look like the damaged of my skin is Pelling off which is very nasty and painful .🙁
You’re welcome dear 😘💗🤗
I have this! My Chemist prescribed FLEXITOL and it works really well. It soothes and really helps heal. My hands are ok now but still I can feel if I need to start using it again. I also bought Finger Plasters - they are really long and wrap twice around so don’t fall off. I use gloves all the time for housework- buy those disposable ones to cook with. It gets better but always lingers. It is a form of eczema. Good luck
This looks like it could be what's known as Mechanic's Hands, something I've experienced too, though not as severely as you. Normally this comes with Dermatomyositis or Polymyositis rather than Lupus. I was originally diagnosed with Lupus before the diagnosis was changed to Dermatomyositis. It might be worth checking whether a form of Myositis is involved with you too...
All the best
Hi Zohreh
I have cutaneous lupus n my hands n feet are severely affected..I know what you're saying it is incredibly painful as we use our hands for everything!! I use Dermol lotion which helps to moisturise n reduce itching..it's on prescription along with other ointments that r topical steroids..I tend to use whatever I need at the time..I won't go into details unless u want me to. Have u had a referral to dermatology? I'm on oral meds as well but what I would say is that I find cotton gloves a big help.. when u apply any creams or ointment n then put cotton gloves on preferably overnight it helps the cream to soak in and protects your hands.
In August I was flaring again n my dermy prescribed strong steroid cream n told me to wear a vinyl gloves overnight..it works a treat!! My hands sweat n r usually sore the next day but it does do the trick!!
With the Dermol lotion u can wash in it as well as a substitute for soap.
Hi there - sorry only just seen this. Yes I have this symptom but usually only on the other side of the hand or the sides and fingertips. Its extremely painful I know so so sorry you are going through this. My Rheumy called it vasclulitis. I used to eat tons of alfalfa and garlic prior to diagnosis which I didnt know could bring on flares. I stopped eating these and it really helped - but the big thing that helped is going on methotrexate - 15 mg a week. I was allergic to Hydroxycholorquine so that was the next step. I recently stopped taking the metho as had surgery and after 6 weeks they came back.. so have gone back on it as advised by GP (as Rheumy hasnt responded which is a little worrying) and they are subsiding. I would say (as you may do already, so please forgive me if you know all this) cut out all sugar/food with added sugar, fast food, refined food and move to as clean a diet as you can - ie fresh veg, salads, fish, or whatever veggie food if you are, two litres of water a day and just cut out any man made type ready made stuff you can. This makes a huge difference to us lupees... the Lupus UK website has a great leaflet on skin and also on diet too. So important. Also I use Eucerin 10% lotion for me whole body and slap it on the hands throughout the day. I only use gentle natural soap on my hands and always wear gloves if doing washing up or handling detergent - and only use non bio, fragrance free detergent for clothes with a couple of extra rinses until there are no suds in the drum. None of this may help you - but hey, its worth a try as it worked for me and thousands of others Ive read about. I do hope things improve asap. All the best, D
Hi zohreh could be sjrogrens or sun sensitive. You need to wear muslin gloves for a while and keep them clean with germoline no washing dishes or cleaning products go green on profits organic but fragrance gree
