Hi, my name is Aisha, live in Abuja, Nigeria. Been diagnosed of lupus in 2011. Was doing well on steroid only till 2015 when my system could not cope any more. Then placed on mycophenolate. Was doing well, but recently discovered that my serum liver enzymes very high? Does mycophenolate cause liver damage?

Hello Aisha,
I imagine that pretty much any potent drug is capable of causing liver damage, and so I'm not surprised to see it on the list of possible side-effects of mycophenolate. However, we've got no way of knowing whether your raised liver enzymes are connected to the drug or not - you'll have to speak with your medics about that. Hope things get better for you soon x

Hi Aisha,
Welcome to the LUPUS UK HealthUnlocked community!
We offer a free information pack that contains guides and factsheets which you can download here: lupusuk.org.uk/request-info...
We are not medically trained here therefore, we cannot comment on whether or not mycophenolate can cause liver damage. Has your doctor discussed any possible reasons as to why you may have an elevated liver enzyme level?
Please keep us updated, wishing you all the best.
