Hi all, can someone please tell me if having a positive ANA result after many negatives over the last three years, and if anyone else has had anti-dsDNA autoantibodies show in blood tests?
ANA Positive: Hi all, can someone please tell me if... - LUPUS UK
ANA Positive
Yes my ANA was equivocal and negative and finally last year, once off all medication, showed a clear positive. I don't have the more specific antibodies though - dsDNA is usually most specific to Lupus. I have Sjögren's as my main disease.
Thanks for replying Twitchytoes, I have never received any medication and have only been diagnosed with Raynauds phenomenon first in December 2014, photosensitivity, and livedo reticularis in Feb 2015, then Fibromyalgia (which i have always disagreed with) in Sept 2015 and Hypermobility syndrome in June this year. I have seen many Rheumatologists since 2015 and results always negative. This year my health has become so much more difficult and challenging and really effecting my daily functioning, so wondered what this result might mean in reflection of my symptoms worsening.
I am not medically trained so can't comment but I would think this result should give you some clarity at last. I wouldn't let anyone fob me off with Fibro either although luckily for me they never have. Push for an appointment with a Lupus specialist if you can.
Yes, it is possible to be negative for ANA then positive later on. However, false positive tests can occur also. You will have to discuss with your doctor what the next step is; if you also have positive anti-dsDNA, then your doctor might consider lupus, as Twitchy said, it is more specific to lupus.
