Hello everyone, I'm looking to get advice on whether or not to suggest my daughter for testing. My daughter is 9 and started itching/burning on the palms of her hands and soles of her feet after a warm bath. She says it's happened for a long time, but has recently gotten so bad she cries and dreads bath time. I mentioned this casually to a friend who said she'd seen something on an allergy/lupus board. I brushed it off not really knowing what Lupus was. Talked to Dr at daughters well visit and she examined skin and said we should try cortisone cream and see if that helps. It's done nothing. Mentioned to another friend who has juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and she said not to freak me out, but that happened to her right before she was diagnosed with RA at age 12. Anyway, this sparked me to look at other symptoms online. My daughter has a dairy allergy. She's constantly fatigued and falls asleep in the car all the time. Sleeps 10-12 hours a night and is still tired. A bit on the moody side, and is worse when she is extra tired. Takes to dr about that, but she's had fatigue since she was tiny and dr says soMe kids just need more sleep. Gets good exercise. Running hurts her chest, recently took her for allergy/asthma testing. She's allergic to almost everything environmental. Breathing not too bad, but was given inhaler for when allergens are highest outside. She's had sores off an in her mouth. Cheeks and nose tend to be a very light pink, but doesn't have raised edges or anything. She's on the slender side. Is 52" tall and weighs near 50 lbs. she's struggled with costipation and slower transit time. Her hips and feet bother her at times, but I've always brushed off as growing pains or soreness from dancing. Her blood pressure was high at last appointment and dr wants to re-check at my other daughters well visit. Does this sound like it's worth talking to dr about? I don't want to sound crazy and read into issues that aren't there, but I also don't want to ignore something that might be

Hello. Looking for answers for daughter...
It may not be lupus or RA - but it does fit with some sort of autoimmune disorder and any doctor who dismisses it all as "some kids just need more sleep" is being lazy or - even worse - dismissive. I think I would insist on a referral for at least some heavier-duty testing. Good luck.
Hi Nic_Wyt19 ,
I would agree with what PMRpro has said. We couldn't say whether this may be lupus or not. The symptoms you have mentioned are not necessarily specific to lupus but further investigations should certainly be carried out. It is worth asking for a referral to a paediatric rheumatologist if possible.
