My nails completely lost their strength, too. Only thing I found that worked was painting on a clear coat of nail polish daily. I use Sally Hansen's Hard As Nails. I'm an American, so I'm not sure if they have that brand in the UK. But diligent and faithful applications of nail polish has really helped my nails keep from breaking.
I know when my lupus is bad that my nails are bad too. I used to grow my nails really long and they were strong. I keep them much shorter these days, as even when OK my nails are not the same. I have been taking Perfectil. Hair Skin & Nails for years but not sure if it does me any good or not, but it's the only multi vitamin I take and it's got lots of things that with lupus can't do me any harm. I do have the odd Shellac / gel manicure for special occasions and my nails are good when i have that on, it seems to make them stronger - like it protects them. Oh and I also try to remember to put gloves on when washing up / to protect my hands and nails. I hope you find something that helps but for me the condition of my nails is all dependant on the state of my lupus. My hair too. Best wishes.
