I have hashimotos. Underactive thyroid for 15 yrs. In menopause too which seems to have started other symptoms so I'm on Hrt which has helped.
Recently had throat infection. After 6 wks and two gp visits got penicillin. Had throat swab which was clear! Seemed to improve but not completely. 2 days after finishing penicillin had a burning tongue and woke up covered in what I thought was chickenpox which quickly made my lips swell huge and my ears and back of my head red raw and my right hand was enormous. I went to A & E cos my voice went to a whisper. After 6 hrs I was given prednisolone for 5 days and urgent referral to Rheumatology. Urgent being 6 week wait in NHS. I worry stopping the prednisolone it will come back. My tongue is still sore but not as.
My question is can anyone tell me if this is anything like Lupus ? My knees hurt when I wake each morning.
I'm afraid we couldn't say whether your symptoms could be caused by lupus or something else. Autoimmune and connective tissue diseases can be very variable and present in a wide range of ways.
If you can't wait for the rheumatology appointment, you could call the consultant's secretary to see if there have been any cancellations and whether they can fit you in earlier.
If you would like more information about lupus and how it is diagnosed, we have a free pack which you can request or download from our website at lupusuk.org.uk/request-info...
