Ring splints trial

I used to love wearing rings - I have metal allergies, but I prided myself on my 'alternative' looks of hair dye, piercings, and sterling silver rings. However, the more ill I got, the more these things had to fall by the side. My hair thinned and I didn't dare put it through dyeing it, piercings all had to come out, couldn't finish my back tattoo for fear of reactions to healing up and my knuckles and fingers swelled too much for my rings. I felt so...unadorned!

I've been struggling with my fingers for a while now - had to give up painting, had to give up making soap, silversmithing, cross-stitch, I couldn't even spin wool or knit anymore this year. My fingers have a tendency to freeze, dislocate, or lock in place and it drove me mad. Since I flare during the winter, I was prepared to go utterly spare from boredom, but a friend of mine with EDS pointed me toward ring splints...and after a bit of hunting about I found a EDS-patient in the UK who makes splints. I've decided to place an order for some of my worst joints, made in sterling silver (which I can tolerate well) and adding a bit of 'bling' by a small amethyst gemstone. I am really hoping it will allow me to do some of the hobbies I had to give up, but I have to admit I'm also looking forward to wearing rather pretty rings again!

If anyone is interesting, this is the lass in question. Her prices are reasonable, and if these rings work, I may get a few more. But I should get my rings within the week, and I'll try and let everyone know how they work for me.

It took a loooooong time for the rings to arrive (first set lost in post) but the maker was very kind and made another set for me. So far I really like them - my fingers feel a lot more stable! But I'm noticing as a result where unstable my joints are (pinkie end joints are still bending all over the place, and my index fingers are still problematic) but on the whole I'm really happy with them, and I hope they help with daily function. I don't need a full set for every joint, but my main knuckles are benefitting already.

HURRAH 👏👏👏👏!!!! Am so glad you're happy with them 🤗

And I had been wondering because my lowest thumb knuckles (is that what they're called? you know...the big bump at the thumb base where the whole thumb joins the hand) have been more of a prob & lately just won't settle down...so I went on your website to seem if her thumb splints could help that far down...and I might email them explaining my prob & asking their thoughts

There are other places that do that kind of splint. Do a google search and you'll see some examples!

Hi they do help the MCP thumb joint in 99% of sufferers, I will always accept returns if when you try them on they don't work, so it's worth trying.

I am hoping to get a thumb splint once I have some pence to rub together, my left thumb is playing up horribly lately, and my constriction gloves don't always do the trick. Love my splints and I'm using them more now the season is turning. Thank you!
