Medicine for Itching

There is a drug called Doxepin that my dermotogist prescribed for my Lupus that works really well on itching. I did not know that the Hydroxy was causing the itching. He said was the strongest medication on the market for Lupus but itching still bad at times. My hair is thinning out. Is anyone having problems with that?

I've been on hydroxychloroquine for years and years with no itching and a small amount of thinning hair in the last couple of years, but then I'm almost to my 60th birthday. I think the thinning hair is due to my age more than any meds. I'm sorry to hear that you are having itching problems and I hope the Doxepin is providing all the help you need.

Hi. Ive been on doxepin for few months now for my depression an anxiety. I would mainly over take more at nite to help me sleep but now ive been noticing my hair thinnin really bad on top front of my head. I have been cryin about it for days. Its like startin to get a bald spot. Im 35 n just couldnt understand why this was suddenly happening. Well i knew i was prescribed 2 new meds within last few months an sure enough doxepix came up hair loss as a side effect. I quickly got up an threw the bottle in the trash. Im so angry!!! I was not warned of this side effect an no medicine is worth takin to deal with losin my hair. Womans hair dont grow like men. Mens hair grows back like 2wks at most then they need another hair cut. Us women have to wait months. Also i saw someone say doxepin helps with itching. That is so untrue. I get intense itches on my back all the time an it dont help 1 bit.

Doxipen does help me with my itching. No one told me either about hair loss but I was itching so bad that was making sores in my head and clawing up my skin. I getting really bad sores. Then I was prescribed the Doxipen and the itching was much better. Benadryl helps some with the itching to. Was very sad when I started losing my hair. They gave me a pill to help with hair loose but hair grew everywhere. Was having to shave my face. I stop taking that. Did not want to look like werewolf. Lol. So I cut all my hair off and did scarfs and wigs. Last year did some research on hair growth and was mazed to find aloe helps with the sores in my head and hair loss. My hair is growing back now. Little over two inches in a year.
