Now I wake up naseau and certain smell of food make me sick- I used to love Dunkin donuts coffee now it taste terrible to me and eggs also and Pepsi which I would only drink to wake up.... What's going on????

Have you recently started any new medications? Nausea and strange tastes can unfortunately be quite common side effects of drugs.

No always the same its been on and off that I get this and a lot of what feels like severe tooth pain that goes all jaw area and on side (left) pain to where when sleeping can't sleep on left side of face cause of pain

Yes in multiple occasions and I get the same result which is ( sorry we can't help you cause that's the lupus)! And if you like please provide me your email and I will forward you I list I have of flare ups and symptoms for review... You will have a big topic or talk u can start

Is this your GP or is it your rheumatology consultant who is dismissing your symptoms? Or is it both?

hi. I hope you're doing well. when I became "sick" which ended up being an autoimmune flare I learned later I became nauseous and couldn't eat much and I also started methotrexate shortly after which made me even more nauseous and have phantom smells, etc....but coupled with the pain in your face makes me think that you should really see a doctor as soon as possible. have you done so yet? any new developments?

Hi Mimi1950 , nausea can certainly be a side effect of methotrexate. I'm not sure whether strange/metallic tastes are a side effect, but this should be listed in the patient information leaflet provided with your tablets if it is. If you are unsure about any side effects you may experience, it is best to speak with your doctor or pharmacist about it.

Strange metallic taste can be methotrexate or Sjogren's as a secondary to Lupus or a neurological or homonal symptom apparently. I have had this symptom constantly for five years but it's more of a bad or salty taste than metallic.

When do you next have an appointment with your rheumatologist? GPs often don't have sufficient specialist knowledge for a lot of lupus symptoms, so rely on the consultants more for help in diagnosing and treating them.

If you feel that you need to be sooner, perhaps you can ask your GP if they can try to arrange an appointment that is not so far away, or try calling your consultant's secretary so that if there are any cancellations they may be able to fit you in sooner.
