Hi
Has anyone else had a flair following breaking a bone?
I had both my hip bones replaced due to Avascular Necrosis which was caused by being given steroids for a very short time for an overactive thyroid gland problem.
I would add that my hip replacements took place in 1997 and 1998. Over 2 years ago I had 2 very nasty flare-ups-ups and now walk with a cane.
Most autoimmune disorders will flare in response to stress of any sort - whether it is emotional, mental or physical. Trauma in the form of a broken bone is a big stress on the body, an infection will do it too which is perhaps more obvious but any stress will affect your immune system.
I often do if I have a bad infection, but I never expected it after breaking my wrist, it's the 1st time I have broken a bone. I have long hair & I am loosing a lot more hair than usual, my fingers feel they are burning & sleeping during the day more, but I know my Rhumatologist won't agree with me & I will get another Depo injection & I will put on more weight.
I had a nasty fall in Dec last year and shattered my shoulder. My immune system went haywire a couple of months later. Now RA, GCA, Hughes, Sjrogrens ?luous. Rheumy told me the shock had triggered my immune problems. Hope you get some joy from your rheumy/ I have all the symptoms you have described.
Take care
Babs
Thanks Babs
I sincerely hope that I doesn't t cause my lupus to flair. The last really bad flair was 20 yrs & I couldn't use either of my hands, resulting in almost 8 weeks in hospital & I still can't use them properly.
I was very lucky that I didn't have a flair following either knee replacements, though I did have a large amount of steroids before hand & I think that must of prevented it from happening.
Hi I agree with PMRpro, having auto immune conditions means that your body is more likely to over react to any virus, bacteria, break, flood, famine, pestilence etc
I had a break a while back and it was like my immune system thought Id had a "break in" it went on high alert. The break healed fine, it was the lupus symptoms that came with it that were a pain. Still don't worry about it as that is likely to make it worse.x
Thank you for you reply. I know it may seem rather silly, but I am more concerned if I put more weight on & the fact that my pony tail is getting thinner & I don't want my hair cut as my sister keeps insisting. On 26th Feb I'm going to a ball & having my hair put up. It's my own fault I was stupid trying to close the gates my self in the wind.
Not stupid at all. You may find that your fears are all for nothing and you heal fine. Focus on the positive of the ball. If your mind is positive it will help you. Good luck with your hair, hairdressers can do wonders. I've bobbed mine now, it makes it look thicker but the hairdresser put a clip piece on when I went to a wedding. Keep us posted.
Thank you, I have been growing now for 25 years now, so I'm keeping my fingers & toes crossed every thing will be ok. I get my chalk of next week, so hopefully all will be healed.
Bye
Hi Yes I too had a flare following a broken vertebra. I have osteoporosis steroid induce so unfortunately I have had a few breaks. I do hope that you start to feel better soon it's a case of hang on in there.
Hi Cal66, Hate to be the bearer of bad tidings but Lupus is an Auto-immune Disease and as such is affected by stews, whether it is caused by family stress, sport, car accidents or a broken bone. You'll just have to ride it out by maybe meditation or just relax with calming music using headphones to stop any outside influences getting in. also you may want to consider acupuncture to help with the pain and stress. my acupuncturist plays Mozart and be
Cal66, Before I was interrupted by my computer, I was going to say after I spoke about Mozart - and before you say I don't like Mozart, I didn't think I liked it either, I just went with it and found myself nodding off.. The combo works well.
Hope I've helped some.
Thank you for your support, I am terribly sorry for not replying sooner, I caught that flue or whatever you wish to call it. Started with Tonsillitis & progressed to my chest, unfortunately I have a large Hiatus Hernia, sick for 6 days & now I have discovered that I am now allergic to yet another antibiotic, Amoxicillin, it caused my throat to swell like a golf ball, now added to my ever growing list.
As for classical music I quite enjoy listening to Tchotchkes, Sleeping Beauty ballet Waltze. I find it very relaxing & pleasant to listen to at any time, in fact when my sister got married she went down the aisle to it.
Basically, any form of stress triggers a lupus flare-up, including braking a bone. Stress is my worse enemy...!: I end up with rashes, joint pains, muscular pain, etc... The best approach is to try and minimize your stress by finding the most appropriate way of coping with it.
