I have just been prescribed this drug for my sle. I have been in a continuous flare nearly a year with severe pain, swelling, fatigue etc and getting no relief. Has this drug worked for anyone will it improve my symptoms? Also really worried re side effects. I also take prednisolone and hydroxy!
Imuran -Azathioprine: I have just been prescribed... - LUPUS UK
Imuran -Azathioprine

Hiif you look back 4 days ago someone else asked about Azathioprene and I and quite a few others replied so it may help to read that. Sorry cold got to fingers so can't type long reply.
All the best
This was my first drug as well as hydroxy and steroids. I constantly felt nauseated with it and took cyclizine to try to help. I stuck with this for about two years then couldn't stand feeling like that any more. My stomach is very sensitive so you may do well on it. Good luck.
I take Azo, hydroxy and prednisolone with no issues whatsoever. The addition of Azo made a huge difference.
I took Azath. for about six months and after about five months I began to be sick some hour after taking it - was told to stop taking it and was given mycophenolate instead - no problems with this drug.
I took Azath for a year when I started getting kidney nephritis 30 yrs ago and It didn't seem to help to bring down my inflammation much if at all. It probably would have been better to remove the stress as well which wasn't possible. It seems like one of those drugs that when you go off of it like hydroxy or plaquenel, you don't notice what it's doing for you until your off it and you get a flare. I was put on Azath for over 25 years after Cyclophosphamide iv and it has maintained my lupus pretty good I might add. Until the last few years my blood work has been pretty good, I think I've ran the course of this drug. I had very little side effects while taking it, that I can remember anyhow. I might add that my current bleeding issues with pre-menopause and abnormal cells in my uterus I truly believe where due to long term use of this drug. Unfortunately we don't have a lot of options when it comes to meds for lupus. I am also one of the lucky ones who never seemed to get colds on these meds even when I've worked around sick people all day and I have only had 3 flu shots and the pneumonia shot once so the drug was helping. good luck.
