Hi could anyone explain why lupus would cause a Tia? Or stroke?

Is it to do with clotting factors and aps or other factors?

Thank u in advance

Yes it could be due to antiphospholipid antibodies syndrome. Your doctors may want to check anticardiolipin antibodies and other tests for APS

After formally being diagnosed with both Lupus and MS, but before the APS diagnosis, I had 2 TIa's. I myself, believe it was more to do with the APS. I wasn't formally diagnosed with the APS until the onset of 2 clots while in the hospital for acute pancreatitis. Although the Lupus has caused many a problem with me, I do believe the TIA's were from the APS not the Lupus. I could be wrong. Good luck!!

It is nothing to do with Lupus, if you are having a tia or a stroke it is because you have Antiphosphilipid syndrome (APS).

I believe the problem comes that there are three tests for APS. Any one positive can mean APS. More than one positive leaves you stronger positive. However, one of the tests lupus anticoagulant is not for lupus at all and doesn't mean you have lupus. You would think they would change the name. Some of these conditions seem to go hand in hand.

Lupus can cause TIAs in one of two ways: either because it causes inflammation of blood vessels, inflammation that cuts off the blood supply to the brain, or because it hastens the formation of plaque on arteries, plaque that can break off and cause a clot.

I agree with the others that TIAs are more likely with APS but lupus can cause them too.

Hello guys, can you tell me what is TIA & APS? Also, sometimes I experience formation of charlie horses, but they never go into full blown clot where I have to breathe and rub it out. I actually calm myself and the place where I feel them coming on to get them to go away. I actually believe it is when I do not drink enough water is why the blood clots or charlie horses occur. However, yesterday I was experiencing heart palpitations, which I've had earlier on prior to being diagnosed with lupus. I also have been experiencing flare ups in my back lately, which is something I haven't had as one of my symptoms in the beginning. Could someone offer advice prior to me seeing Rheumatologist in of next month, maybe I should go see her sooner? I didn't know that lupus could cause a stroke!
