First diagnosis

I have just been diagnosed with Lupus. I have been struggling with work as a home carer. I have pain constantly. I was wondering if anyone else has had to give up work due to Lupus.

I had to give up work due to the condition and went on the sick. It came to the points where they failed my medical and I went on jsa. I got myself a job after but it's a sit down job which is not bad and it do help by standing up now and again to stretch the only thing that don't help is there is different hours every week so I'm not in a routine. Your maybe finding it hard as your always on your feed constantly busy. You need to slow down and rest give your body time to recuperate xx

Hi cm

If you do have to make the big, tough decision to give up work , before then you could go to the Citizens Advice Bureau who would run a benefits check to see what help you could get. They will also help you fill in the claim forms. Maybe a change of job or doing less hours will help?. Good luck. X

I'm currently off work due to lupus, need a time off to study my symptoms or just wanted a time off to see if my body needs to generate more white blood cells to fight infections.

I had a sit down job but my hands were swelling, pain, red patches, itchy and fatique after couple hours typing. I was think about stand up job, but I may not be able to stand for so long either.

I applied for PIP, but looks like I will need a lawyer...it's not easy, but give it a try anyway while still thinking what can I do.

Ruth, as I research, lupus can control...it means it won't kill me, but it doesn't mean will get better but get worsen as I'm getting older everyday. I like to think positive , but nobody says they are over with lupus.

Hi cm1963,

Would you like me to send you one of our free information packs about lupus? A lot of people who are newly diagnosed find them helpful. If you'd like one just send me a private message or email paul@lupusuk.org.uk with your name and address.

I'd recommend that you take a look at our employment guides too. It may give you more guidance on any decisions to do with your work and a better idea of what support may be available. You can view them online at lupusuk.org.uk/living-with-... or I can include physical copies in an info pack.
