I was diagnosed with this after I was told Ihave Emphasema and before I was told Lupus. I have always looked on this as self inflicted as I had smoked for years from the age of twenty-one. Though my family members also suffered from it. So three choices Nature self inflicted or Lupus .Easy to blame Lupus without tking others into consieration

Thanks for reply no over the hill. I did smoke for 10:years having given up 2years ago so I asked consultant if it was due to smoking. He said no it was not smoking related.

Hi Salgreen - it is, absolutely, connected. I have Lupus and bronchiectasis and attend a clinic at Addenbrooke's hospital where Lupus patients are seen by both a rheumatologist and a lung doctor (can't remember what the posh name is for them!). This is very helpful when I have had a bad time with chest infections following a bad cold. I always get a chest infection when I get a cold and often get a sinus and ear infection as well. I was told that this is a classic development of Lupus. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.... D

Thanks Davina good news actually at least its all part of the same not something new! Got a fantastic lung doc in Carmarthen and my husband is to come with me to learn physiotherapy to help clear my lungs. Hopefully this will help with breathlessness and stop my huffing and puffing at work! Thanks take care

Hello there, just a quick reply to say that I have both these 'lovely' diseases too, plus a few others for variety- in case of boredom! Sorry, I've a terrible sense of humour.. I was diagnosed with Lupus 13 ish years ago & then in between other bits n bobs

Oops sorry think I accidentally sent my reply to you early :) Its Cmac again. So I was told my childhood asthma was back about 10 yrs ago, as I started having breathing problems. After that, I had several dramatic bouts of pneumonia & pneumonitis then I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis. Specialists Docs said it was linked, as Davina said too, & I do find that when I get extra ivs & treatment for lupus, that it definitely seems to help my chest. It's taken some time to get here, but my chest infections have improved. Do keep your heart up & ask for the best treatment before your lungs are permanently damaged. Good luck & feel free if you'd like to give me a shout. TC -C

Thanks cmac. I appreciate your reply. Not disheartened yet ! Looking forward to the physio. Doc was great showed us the ct scan , pointing out the areas in both lungs and telling us everything makes a big difference when docs take time with you. Take care.

Thats a really good attitude & I'm really glad you trust you Pul. Doc & they've been so thorough with you. I've never seen any images of my lungs (not sure if I want to) but keep wee eye on your heart etc too, as it can be affected too. All the best Claire

Thanks cmac. I have already had a heart attack as and have unstable angina but had stents put in all before lupus diagnosis. Get twinges but if any bad heart pain always go to A/E can't take a risk. Cheers.:-)

Gosh- thats pretty lousy. I'm guessing by your messages that you've a lot going on that you don't mention. I find it is a bit embarrassing when you seem to have lots of parts of you affected & when you see a new consultant etc, you reach for the long list! I've had heart issues on/off & after a bad spell of pulmonary emboli last year, I've been bit worse. I was diagnosed with angina then unstable angina in my early 40's (not too long ago!) & then complication with heart & valves but I'm sure it's sort of typical for other Lupus folk. Take care Claire x

Indeed _ I list in sections, regular, intermittent and occasional lol! Its better that we know its all Lupus initiated rather that than all sorts of random illnesses disconnected to each other. Hope you cardiac issues settle down for you. Have a good day. sal

Hi. Apologies for being a little late in replying to your post but am a newbie on the site. They have to be connected. I was diagnosed about 25 years ago with bronchiectasis, then around 5 years later with RA, then since then with other associated AI conditions, and now Lupus. Like Davina, I have a history of problems with my sinuses. The biggest problem is that because of the timescale between various conditions appearing, medics seem to struggle with joining the dots. Hope you're coping will with everything. Best wishes., Liz
