Im still awaiting a diagnosis presently... however ive been sick for as long as i remember. One reason im pushing now for answers and help, I worry my youngest son has very similar problems. Hes 9, always feels bad... always has aches, pains, stomach issues, anxiety... and skin probs. I talk to him, try helping him... but drs wont listen and with his anxiety its hard to even get him into a dr.

Hi Shananpoo

What a worrying time for you with your own health and your son's!. Could you think about trying to get your son seen by a paediatric rheumatologist. They would be able to assess his symptoms and hopefully help. Do you live near a big hospital where there's more likely to be one?. Good luck with your own health, I know what it's like to struggle to get a diagnosis!. Do you see a Rheumy?. Could he see your son ?. X

Hi, I totally empathise as Im going through exactly the same with my 12 year old daughter, have been for almost two years. Initially her headaches and stmach pains put down as migraines by paediatrician after they did lots of tests. However her anxiety has got worse, she's tired, pale, has aches and pains which come and go. Gp did blood test for thyroid and she's slightly low so refered to different paediatrician. He's put it all down to depression and anxiety and referred her back to childrens mental health, he's just monitoring her thyroid.

Went childrens mental health CAMHS with my son for school refusal and other behaviours - they put it all down to my having an illness.

A few months ago the school and gp felt she should see CAMHS but they refused to see her stating that again they felt all her issues would be down to my illness. But this time the paediatrician is going to insist as she doesn't look well.

School have been excellent, she's now in a class of 12 and has an hour off a day from school, we've worked it so she doesn't miss English, maths or science.

Again, children face the same slog as us for diagnosis without clinical evidence they're just stressed and depressed........sad isn't it.

Good luck to you xxx

I totally empathise Mums. My son, now 30 yrs old had the same issues. Headache, stomach ache, vomiting, pains in his legs, depression, anxiety etc. We spent a lot of time at the doctors and off school in bed. He gave up on his A levels after glandular fever set him back a year. Then he upped and joined the army and had a very successful career and is now back on civvy street, in a relationship with a lovely girl with no sign of his childhood illnesses! I just wanted to say that yes it is very worrying when you are going through it but it was his brother who had childhood lupus.

You would not think to look at him today that he had so much illness as a child. :)

Hi x

My son has become very anxious after us moving house and me being in and out of hospital so the school referred him to the school nurse. We went to see them the other day, just me and the hubby, and they were so fab. We spent a long time chatting, they asked lots of questions, and in the end they decided to refer him to a paediatrician. Maybe you could go see your school nurse too. My son is also 9. xxx

I'm sorry to hear your going through this. It seems as usual the GP isn't listening again. Even if they could look into the anxiety as a start off point and help. I haven't had a lot to do with being the patient but I know now and it stinks, especially with some of the docs you meet. I also know what it's like to be the one someone comes to and not to know what is causing a problem. Luckily i am able to say, 'you'll need to see the dr about that' but I did think most listened and tried. It is awful when you don't know what to do but this has many signs that your son needs more investigating. All the things you mention could be caused by anxiety and in the same way they may be causing the anxiety.

As always get another opinion and remember these DRS are just humans, they may think they are more superior beings but they are not, and most do care and want to help. Also don't give up, if you don't go back they will think its all resolved. X

I'm sorry you are going through this. Worrying will make your symptoms worse. I hate to see any of us suffer but especially children. I hope you both receive a good diagnosis so you can work on feeling better. Good luck to your family.

So sorry to hear this Shanan. It must be such a worry. He could be tested for the Rheumatoid Factor in the first instance. If his result isn't positive then it's highly unlikely he'll develop any of the rheumatoid diseases.

Thank you everyone. I will definitely look into getting him to a specialist. All of this has come to light, very recently. I wish i could find one dr to listen, is all
