Does anyone suffer with thickening skin under fingernails and onycholysis
Hi Krisx67, I started on rituximab in november, and developed thickened peeling fingernails, on which my gp did nail scrapings and diagnosed onycholysis, she gave me some nail lacquer to paint on twice daily and some Terbinafine tablets. Be very careful of these tablets as they can cause a lupus flare, and are incompatable with beta blockers amitriptyaline. Read the leaflet carefully. They really made me ill with a flare, painful joints, extreme fatigue, migraines and angina. My GP was apologetic and said her computer programme had failed to flag this up and she would correct it. I don;t know if the Rituximab caused this or it just appeared. I am just using the nail varnish now although it will take 6 months to a year to go, I would rather do that than have another flare.
I hope you don't have any side effects, do let us know how you get on.
Thanks for reply. I am currently diagnosed by rheumatologist with UCTD and hace been taking amitriptyaline for insomnia. My GP knows this as she gave me a repeat prescription at the same time.she also asked if I was allergic to anything and I explained that rheumatologist had prescribed hydroxochloroquine last year and I had a severe reaction resulting in steven johnson syndrome, but she still prescibed terbinafine. Maybe I should go back and ask for something else for my nails!
