Hi kelly

Yes I know exactly what you mean. I have had 4 chest infections in 3 months. Fed up of being ill. Its probably because we have low immunity love. Hope u feel better soon hun.

Lupie hugs

Hi join the club, yes having a compromised immunity we are open to catching everything and anything but there are measures we can take to help ourselves. Firstly avoiding public transport when it is packed full of children as children are full of nasty bugs and viruses, wearing gloves when shopping to avoid all those nasties that other peoples hands have put on the baskets and trolleys, try to go shopping at least busy times and impecable hand hygiene. When I go to my doctor's surgery for my weekly blood test or any other appointment he won't let me wait in the waiting room, I have a chair all on my own away from everybody else to avoid being coughed and sneezed over. Whenever I am unfortunate enough to be taken in to A&E I tell the nursing staff that I have SLE and they are generally pretty good and put me in a room on my own so that I am not at risk of picking up anything anyone else may have. If I have to go to any hospital appointments I tell nursing staff I have SLE if I have noticed that anyone is coughing and spluttering as I am on immune suppressants as well so I tell them I tell them I don't want to catch anything I often don't wait long or if there is a long wait they find a room where I can wait away from people.

I hope you feel better soon and with luck what I have said here might be at least a little bit useful to you.

It is probably my fault as I have just got back from a weekend break and have obviously picked something up on the plane.... I am not prepared to give up on my holidays but the advice is good... I have started to take strong Vit C... I work full time too and feel guilty when I am ill as it seems to be constant.... :-( I really don't want to stop work though!

Kellyleg, well done you for working full time, thats a huge achievement in itself with this illness. And I totally don't blame you not giving up on your hols, I'm planning another one soon. When well enough I try to get abroad, but otherwise treat us to a luxury hotel break in this country and making the most of seeing parts of the UK we haven't been to before. Obviously it's important to try and be careful with hand hygiene etc. and I do ask visiting friends to text beforehand if they have any bugs etc. But real life means we do come into contact with these ailments and sadly for us we tend to suffer more than the average 'well' person.

Take care and hope you recover soon.

Yes I do, I have been like this all through my teenage years up to now (66), When I started work I always caught what was going but it affected all my body. Then 2 miscarriages before I had my two children (now 42 and 40) and I then worked in a School for 15 years, little knowing it was the worst place to be and caught everything the 'dear little ones' so willingly passed on! Had to retire on ill health at 50 and now just have to be careful where I go. So much worse in winter and I have been known on several occasions to shout at people who cough and sneeze without using a handkerchief. A man in the que in Morrison's sneezed and I got the spray all down my neck. I shot round and Shouted - "Do you know you could KILL someone who has an autoimmune disease, use a handkerchief". They ladies who were waiting all round on different tills all clapped. Boy did he go red, bet he did not do that again. I am not usually That bad but he deserved it and I was not feeling so well at the time. Serves him right, you should not have to tell adults about good manners!xx
