health insurance for travelling abroad
hi all can anyone tell me if they have trouble ge... - LUPUS UK
hi all can anyone tell me if they have trouble getting insurance when they go on holiday thanks
There are companies that will insure you, Paul Howard(admin), can give you a list. I went abroad for the first time since diagnosis. I think I paid £65 for a 10 day trip to Majorca. This was with the Post Office. I also made sure I had my EU card too. F+family thought I had overpaid and should have looked online! but I don't see the point of insurance if you are going to omit the details. If you needed to claim, you wouldn't get paid out anyway, because you lied. I have many probs including vasculitis and APS, and it didn't stop me getting insured.
Hi I went to Australia recently I shopped around put in my conditions and it was fine and I payed £35.00 to have a 1 months insurance do shop around one company quoted me nearly £200
Hi I have used a few, good to go insurance and free spirit insurance. The latter was the cheapest for me. I suppose it depends on your what conditions you have as to how much you pay. I have SLE and in remission for leukaemia and think the last insurance I paid was for £150, with free spirit. Hope this helps.
Hi i tried all the ones that lupus uk recommend unfortunately nobody will cover me due to so many health issues and in and out of hospitals and having to see my GP twice a week , i am a very complex patient so in the end i had to just give up going abroad and just stay in the uk.
Good luck.
Yes.
it is difficult because you have to declare all your conditions otherwise they would not pay if you needed treatment while you were away, which can run into many thousands of pounds.
I got insurance recommended by lupus uk.
I don't recall the name it was too long ago.
Once I had asked for this insurance I had a telephone assessment with an adviser who asked about ALL my conditions, said all ok and I paid some small sum, I seem to remember around £40.
The European health certificate thing is good and worth getting for Europe but you should discuss with your travel adviser as I am not sure how many things it would cover you for. I think it is fairly basic.
I did need emergency medical care while I was oversea (not Europe) and they did pay! When I went to hospital I had to show my insurance details before anyone would see me, even tho it was an emergency. Then I had treatment in hospital, it was a bad time for me and not very nice so I won't go into details... but I got total care.
I would be dead now if I had not had the treatment.
I don't go overseas now, I holiday in the uk. I don't feel confident to go overseas anymore.
Just to point out... if the doctor has advised a patient not to travel or fly it would probably be impossible to get travel insurance.
Hi, Tesco was the only one that was any good for me and also I have the policy in a yearly basis, so they just renew it and list any new conditions. To date I am very pleased with them.
Kind regards Watercolour
I recently renewed a policy with Liverpool Victoria. I have discoid lupus and had to disclose hip surgery less than a year ago. The policy is a family one (2 adults 3 children) for 12 months cover, including winter sports coverage for £162. Good luck! (By the way, I agree, about being honest, they record telephone calls these days and if you need to make a claim and have lied about your condition you could be up the proverbial creek without a paddle. Faced with paying medical bills).
All the time. Have problems with getting insurance my stumbling block is the hydrocalhaus shunt
The price goes from £30 to £300 for a week holiday
