Hi Caninecrazy,

I've just been told the same...but its not instead of, it's as well as lupus....fibro seems to be a common occurance, I think its what they say to explain the aches and pains in muscles and nerves... My GP told me right at the beginning, that if they can't find consistant proof i.e positive bloods, they tend use fibro as a universal diagnosis. This in no way belittles the pain that fibro causes...it's agonising, has lots of symptoms like being tired all the time, long term pain and covers the whole body. Lupus, which is an autoimmune condition, has so many crossovers with other conditions, you will find quite a few Lupies also have fibro.

I've been given gabepentin which initially seemed to work, but lately it doesn't seem to be having the desired effect.

You can find lots of info on the web from the arthritis and NHS websites.

Gentle hugs

xxx

Hi Caninecrazy

I suffer with Fibromyalgia, I also have Spinal nerve problems along with Arthritis ... I have a lot of cluster headaches that affect my muscles around my right eye. Im still under investigation as my blood test came back normal, yet the Rheuma still believes I have Connective Tissue Disease along with Discoid Lupus Erythematosus (with Photosensitivity) this was diagnosed by a biopsy. Ive been put on Pentigablin but went a bit loopy on it so was put on Gabapentin & Amitriptyline .. also hydroxychloroquine. It was the Rheuma that gave me a physical examination to diagnose Fibro .. I have been feeling as though Ive been beat up in the mornings, a lot of rib & chest tightness, fatigue also not feeling Ive had any sleep...However, my Sjögren's syndrome could be a mix of both because my throat gets so dry I can hardly talk, thus affects the chest, mouth and teeth. Fibro has other symptoms as well as I suffer with IBS, menorrhagia and migraines. I have other symptoms but its all to do with nerves so Im seeing a Neurologist in a few weeks as I need a Lumbar Puncture. So even a year on Im still being investigated ... my GP is not sympathetic .. My Derma and Rheuma are more caring and understanding ... I cant get up some mornings or if I turn over in my sleep the pain wakes me up especially around my ribs and hip areas ... Just having Fibro is bad enough but everything else makes life an existence and life is very limited ... Hope you feel better soon when the meds kick in .... if the meds dont help go back to the GP ... Ive come to realise its trial and error to get the pain relief right for you .. everyone is different and suffer different degrees of pain either with the Lupus and Fibro -x- Ps.. I did have Tramadol (Very strong painkiller) but after a while my body got used to it and didnt work -x-
