Pain in my rib cage both sides? Hurts to breath i... - LUPUS UK
Pain in my rib cage both sides? Hurts to breath in and out? Below my breast ? Who knows what's wrong with me ?
I get those pains too, my gp told me its wear and tear with cartilage in my rib cage. Go to your gp and get them to check you over, there's alot of organs in that area and you don't want to sit back just incase its something worse. Get seen asap x
I also get pains in my rib areas....I was told it was costochondritis and to take high dose ibuprofen. I empathise with you as it's excruciatingly painful. Best to get it checked out with the GP though. All the best xxx
Sounds like costochondritis which is so sore. Inflammation of the connective tissue between the ribcage and lungs. At best very sore and at worst feels like a heart attack. Unfortunately part of the lupus package x
Definitely get yourself checked out, although it sounds like costochondritis to me too - but worth getting checked for pleurisy, which is treatable with antibiotics (albeit big ones). Good luck! Jo
I feel for you as I have had similar pain for around 2 years, x-rays etc show nothing and rheumy puts it down to costo too. As Sarah says it can be excruciating! I 'm unable to find any relief and fail to identify whether something makes it worse or better, I can't identify triggers or cures.
I'm intrigued as to how many people suffer from either costochondroitis - or something similar that is diagnosed as costo. I'm aware there is cartilage in the area that is prone to inflamation but it seems quite prevalent amongst those with SLE. Maybe this could be a topic for a poll?
All the best, but definitely get it checked out.
Hi,
I too have painful ribs and my GP didn't seem too concerned.....shame we can't transfer pain back and forth so they know what it's like!!! Do you get pain under your shoulder blade too?
I've started to use mentholatum...it's a rub that can be used for lots of ailments, stings, grazes, muscle cramps...the family joke is that it's 'Mum's mend all', just don't spread it on your toast**!!! It seems to give some relief, having asthma too it helps both.
I'd still get GP to check it out...good luck!
I get mine under my shoulder too, gps just chuck you painkillers and send ya on ya way. If only they knew eh x
hi all, I too suffer the excrutiating rib pain have done for about 5 years now but more so I suffer badly with pain under the shoulder blade, as with a lot of you I have monitored when, whys, triggers etc, my conclusion is there are non, I have tried for years to find a pattern, definitely is none, I have suffered lupus for 27 years but only ever been treated for external yet have suffered all the sle ailments for about 10 years and finally at last my consultant had me blood tested 4 weeks ago though I have another 8 weeks till I find out though knowing my hospital and luck they will say it is negative, my body can definitely tell them otherwise. if anybody does ever find relief, be it lots or little , for rib, shoulder blade pain I would give anything for them to let me know.
p.s sorry for bad keyboarding folks, am partial sighted.
I can't believe how many symptoms us lupos share. I don't mean the well known ones, I mean this rib malarkey. I have had this for a few years and although I did fracture a couple of ribs,(falling over), I know it can't still be that. I fell about 3 years ago and a recent bone scan showed they have not mended. Like you all, the pain is often high up the rib cage. My damaged ribs are low down the bottom. Having said all this I am suffering now due to the old injury as I fell again last week. As well as co-codamol I take amytripline which does stop you from holding your torso so rigid. There are many other things i have seen on this website and will certainly shout out if applicable.
Might also be Pleurisy so best get it checked out
Hello all ... I have Sjo/SLE in lungs & liver, pulm. fib., dormant, I hope, pulmonary arterial hypertension, asthma, acid reflux, IBS, PBC and a few other things .... have been on maintenance of prednisone (5mg.) and metho ... But then a couple of months ago I started getting very bad pain right below my breasts that would start in the front and follow around to my back that would eventually cause my entire upper body to feel like it was stiffening ... Sometimes I would feel like someone had put a very wide cinch belt around the top of my body which apparently is how asthma affects me. But now the pain around the area right below my breasts which I would assume is the rib cage hurts so much that when I touched the area did it hurt to put it mildly .... I have been reading that most people take aspirin for the pain but because of PBC I can't go near any form of it and can't go near any pain killers for another reason .... What natural ways are there in order to quiet it down? Do any of you do hatha yoga and if so what positions do you recommend?
