No, but my consultant recommended it, said I should be able to get it on NHS but my GP declined. Would love to hear how others get on.

I have accupuncture not actually for lupus but for problems with my spine and I do have it on NHS but you only get 6 to 10 sessions then you have to get referred again. It has helped with my spine but I now have to get referred again.

Hi there

I am a great believer and regular user of complementary meds. I spent quiet a lot of money on acupuncture which helped a little for a brief period of time but for the benefits to continue it would have cost me more money than I had as I was having 3 sessions per week. It helped with relaxation and general well being but the impact was limited. If I had the money then I would go again. I hope this helps.

I have sciatica and my rheumy said its common with lupus. I have had a session 6 once a month recently for the sciatica and its caused me horrendous pain. burning feet. cold feet. numbness and it seems like nerve damage. the entry point (needle) in my right outside ankle still feels like the pins are being inserted several times a day. its so painful. wont have any more. I think fibro and accupunture don't work for me

Oh yes, I suppose what I should have said is that it's best to use an acupuncturist who comes recommended by someone/has the relevant qualifiction/experience. Good luck, let us know how you get on.

Kind regards

OK, take care. Maybe do your own research online about it and see how you feel then. Good luck whatever you decide.

Before I was diagnosed with SLE I had acupuncture for my horrible swollen joints (knees, hands, fingers, ankles). I was told by the acupuncturist that he could cure my swollen joints, but not the underlying disease. My joints were helped hugely by this treatment, better than all the pills I'd been given, so would definitely be worth a try if that's your problem - I only had to visit the acupuncturist 3 times. Good luck!!

Yes I've been having acupuncture every 3-4 weeks over the past 3 years (he charges on a sliding scale so it's affordable) and I've found it very helpful. He treats me by supporting my organs so that they can work at optimum levels, while keeping the inflammation down. I rarely take meds these days -only the occasional pain killer.
