Covid and lung cancer

My husband has Covid and so far I'm not showing any symptoms, but I'm concerned about how it might affect someone with lung cancer. Any advice welcome. I'm being very careful, wearing a mask My husband is banished to the upstairs TV or the other end of the garden to avoid contact !

I've never had Covid and I'm fully vaccinated.

Hi , thank you for your enquiry . You are doing all the right things to minimise your risk of developing covid-19 , as I am sure you are aware there are there are very few covid-19 restrictions in place for the general population at present . If you are currently receiving anti cancer treatment and are immunocompromised ( have a weakened immune system , reduced ability to fight infection ) , if you develop symptoms of covid-19 you may be more likely to become unwell if you do develop covid-19 , despite being up to date with your vaccines. If you develop any symptoms such as high temperature , increased shortness of breath , altered taste you must seek urgent health care advice . You may be eligible to receive antivirals .Your clinical nurse specialist , GP or NHS 24 may be able to give you current advice in your area. Further advice can also be found on the government website gov.uk .

Thank you, that's helpful. I'm having immunotherapy every 3 weeks. I will contact our lung cancer specialist nurses if I have any symptoms developing.

Morning unfortunately my husband gave me covid recently it was an awful strain we were both really poorly so please try and avoid contact with him until he's negative. My oncologist said to check my temperature and if I got worse to call them. I'm on targeted therapy but luckily my breathing and temp were fine. I had to have antibiotics as it effected all my sinuses. Good luck I really hope you manage to escape it x

Thanks for your message. Unfortunately I haven't escaped it, and feel pretty rough this morning. I've had the same advice from the oncology nurses, and so far my breathing is alright and I don't have a temperature. It seems unfair with everything else that's going on ! Another thing to get through. xx

Ah I'm sorry to hear you've not escaped it. I bought a sats machine to test my oxygen levels which gave me some reassurance. I hope you both recover quickly I can't believe covid is still causing so many problems. Take care x

Hi there Gingergus

Sorry to hear you've caught it too. Its good to read you're fully vaccinated as this should reduce the effects and help you recover more quickly.

My husband (stage 4 NSCLC, diagnosed in March 2021) has had covid twice (if not more!). One time, he did get the anti-virals but only the once. He wasn't too poorly at all and came through fine. I hope this gives you some reassurance.

Best wishes, Sarah
