Missed treatment

I had my first immunotherapy and chemotherapy a while ago, on my second chemotherapy I had a reaction so the treatment was stopped. Has this happened to anyone else and do you still receive the missed treatment later down the line, thanks

Hello Arthurpops,

Sorry to hear about your cancer and about the reaction you had to treatment. Unfortunately, these reactions are not uncommon. Decisions on the missed treatment are made by your individual Oncology team, and can depend on many factors, like where you are in the treatment cycle or how bad the reaction was. Sometimes the medical team wait for the next scan results before deciding whether this is worth repeating. This must be very frustrating for you, the best thing to do is focus on what you can currently influence- your own health and wellbeing and that will put you in the best position possible when a treatment decision is made. You might find our information leaflets helpful if you haven’t already seen them

Continue to communicate with your medical team, you might find your lung cancer specialist nurse helpful in offering support and liaising with your medical team.

If you wish to discuss anything further, you can email ask the nurse at lungcancerhelp@roycastle.org or please feel free to call our phone led helpline number - free on 0800 358 7200 Monday to Thursday 0900-1700 and Friday 0900-1600.

Hi Arthur, I had 8 treatments and then had to stop due to side effects. You will be monitored now whilst they work out the next plan of action. Don’t despair, they will be on it for you.

It can feel scary when treatment is stopped or paused for any reason and our minds go into overdrive thinking of possible consequences. It is relatively common for this to happen and as other responses show, your team will explore the best options for you. If you have a lung specialist nurse, they can often explain in more detail. good luck and hope you get some news soon.
