Recommendations for Body Wash and Moisturiser During Chemotherapy.

Hi all,

I have noticed my dad has dry and itchy skin (no rash) after his first round of chemo and understand this is a common side effect. We have been advised to use non-scented shower gel and moisturizer but there are so many on the market, I wondered if anybody has any recommendations?

Thank you

Hi LemonGeranium

Sorry to hear about your dad and the effect the chemotherapy is having on his skin.

I have placed a few links below with some advice that may help:

Cancer Research UK cancerresearchuk.org/about-...

and Macmillan Support

macmillan.org.uk/cancer-inf...

Hope you hear from others in the forum what they have found helpful, and you could ask the local pharmacist what they would recommend of the lung cancer nurse specialist.

This is our link to our booklet on chemotherapy, which if youd dad does nto have he may find useful:

roycastle.org/app/uploads/2...

We have a range of support services, from one to one support to online support groups through zoom , if you are interested in any of these you can register through this link: roycastle.org/help-and-supp...

If there is anything else you would like to discuss you can email ask the nurse at lungcancerhelp@roycastle.org or call our free phone nurse led helpline number on 0800 358 7200 Monday to Thursday 0900-1700 and Friday 0900-1600

Kind regards

As said before I would ask your lung cancer nurse. I use aveeno for dry skin and find it very good. It’s available in lots of places pharmacies and supermarkets. I think MacMillan recommend it too. I know other people who need to get a prescription for the right cream. Hope you find one that works for Dad

Aveeno do a baby hair and body wash or he could use Sanex which has no soap in it.

Aveeno moisturising lotion with oatmeal is very good for dry skin and was recommended by the chemo nurses xxx

Aveeno is used by many who have dry skin from treatment.

There is also a range called Jennifer Young made especially for those who have cancer - sold through CRUK online shop as well as directly from their own site. There are different ranges for different types of treatments.... hope you get some relief soon. beautydespitecancer.com/col...

Hi,I have found this Body Wash to be brilliant and La Roche Posay Sensitive Cream is good as a facial moisturizer. Sending love and positive thoughts to you and your Dad.

Hello all, thank you so much for the kind messages and suggestions 💝. I have some moisturising Aveeno already, which I use myself so will give that a go first. I will keep in mind the Jennifer Young and La Roche-Posay products if he doesn't get on well with Aveeno and Sanex.

My husband used Aveeno too - shower wash, shampoo (until his hair fell out 😔) and moisturiser. x
