Lung nodule: my husband is due a lung... - The Roy Castle Lu...
Lung nodule
Sorry to hear about your husband, this must be a very worrying time for you both. Often these nodules can be benign, it's good that you are getting it checked out by biopsy. Normally this can be done as a day case and should not require a hospital stay. He shouldn't need too much time off work, but if it's possible, it might be advisable to have the next day off.
Reporting of results varies but generally speaking it can take a couple of weeks to get the results back. In the meantime, if you have any questions, you can email us on lungcancerhelp@roycastle.org or if you would like to chat, you can call the Roy Castle Helpline/Ask the Nurse on 0800 358 7200. Our hours are 0900-1700 Mon to Thurs and Friday 0900-1600
Kind Regards

Usually biopsies are done as a day case - he might want to book the next day off in case of any soreness. Imagine you're both anxious but the biopsy is as much to rule things out as in.... many people have lung nodules - the majority are harmless and don't develop further - like moles on the skin but their incidence has increased since tests like lung health checks were introduced so many more people are having scans either there or when investigating for other conditions when they might show up on the imaging. Good luck to you both....
that's considered an 'incidental finding' - unsure if ignored or that his heart clinically took precedence as more urgent. I had a CT some years ago and told 'the liver cyst is stable' and told it had been on my scans since 2010 but I was completely unaware. Many things are found on CT scans as they're so incredibly detailed but not all things are clinically significant and lung nodules weren't known to be so apparent in the general population until lung health checks started being done in large numbers..... fingers crossed his isn't anything serious.... good luck to you both.
update:my husband is having surgery on the 21st, expected stay 5/10 days, off work roughly up to 8 weeks.3
Good luck for the 21st. I'm 5 weeks out of top lobectomy of right lung on Monday, 7.8cm tumour. Discharged 3 days after surgery and back on indoor bike training after 2 weeks, gently going back to work this weekend on light duties. I do have to ease off occasionally, but I was determined this wasn't going to define me. Also as I'm youngish for lung cancer diagnosis, I was 60 a month after first x-ray, I have too much going on in my life.
Think and act positively, you and your husband will get through it.
Thinking of you both
Thanks. Your husband will too, especially with your strength and support.
I am flexing my support muscles as we speak 🙂
Update: my husband had his surgery having the nodule, an area around it and some from the lymph node's removed, this was sent to the lab and found to have no cancer! I can only say Hallelujah, his recovery is going extremely well. We will have more results in around four weeks the surgeon says there's a 99.9 chance all is good. Ian we sincerely hope things go well for you and thank you again for your positivity. Stay strong and God Bless
That's great news, hoping all comes back negative for cancer. I saw the surgeon last week and had a chest x-ray. The biopsy revealed no cancer cells in my tumour, the relief was overwhelming. My wife and I hugged the nurses and I screamed with joy in the car park. The tumour and lymph nodes have been sent to another laboratory for a second opinion, but the original report was 5 pages long and the surgeon expects the same results. Given the size of the tumour, I had to have the lobe removed, especially as it was already attached to my chest wall and still growing. I have another appointment in 6 weeks for confirmation of results.
It looks like your husband and I have struck lucky, like winning the lottery.
Best of luck for results in 4 weeks and the future xx🥰🥰
