So Tired

Finished 20sessions of Radiotherapy on 1st December, I was told that this causes tiredness, but it's still going on.

I generally fall asleep after lunch for about 60 minutes!

Is this normal & how long does it last?

Hi Beatles

I’m very new here and can’t answer your question but suggest that all of us are different. Be kind to yourself and if your body is telling you to have a post lunch sleep just go with it. Sleep is a great healer IMO, allowing your body to help repair itself and giving your head some peace, into the bargain.

Hopefully others with much more knowledge than me will be able to give a more knowledgeable answer but in the meantime my thoughts are with you.

Xx

Hi Beatless

It is very common to feel that sudden exhaustion and tiredness for a few months from the radiotherapy. For most people this does pass and slowly you will notice a difference.

As Kanafapot has said it is wise to listen to your body and rest when you need to. JanetteR57 has kindly provided the link to our booklet on radiotherapy and please do not hesitate to get in contact with us if you wish to discuss anything.

Our email is lungcancerhelp@roycastle.org and our free phone nurse led helpline is 0800 358 7200 Monday to Thursday 0900-1700 and Friday 0900-1600

Kind regards

Had radiation to my adrenal gland and a lymph node in the chest in Dec and then had powerful radiation to my L5 in lower back last month. It is like walking through walls sometimes! After doing so much radiation the last few years, I have learned to be patient but strict with myself. My mornings are much better as far as energy so I try to get any errands or housework plus exercise done before noon. Afternoons I am exhausted and in pain so down I go for that nap. I perk up a bit to make dinner and shower but early to bed. The life of a radiated cancer patient. Hang in there, we are walking this journey and still here!

Hi Beatles

Yes radiotherapy makes you very very tired. I've just had it an feel zonked out. How many sessions are you having? I've had 5 and it's very precise and accurate. They put markers on you to know precisely where to mark you up.

It's very good and very effective. Bit scary I suppose.

Hope this helps

Pam

beatlesIt goes on while unfortunately.

It's had it and it makes you very tired. Radiotherapy does too. I see you have Radiotherapy 1st December. That will make you tired to it's quite amazing though and targets the precise area and extremely effective. They mark you up precisely and CT scan you. It's a very effective treatment and works very well.

Hope this helps

Pam
