Enlarged lymph node

Hi, I had NSCLC in my right lower lobe last July and had thoracic surgery to remove the lobe. Fortunately, I didn’t require further treatment as it had been all removed. Had CT scan follow up this year & told I have an enlarged lymph node in my chest. I do have a chest infection and still cough, even after surgery. Going for PET scan next Tuesday. Anyone else had this?

I had a lobectomy in March and surgeon told me my lymph nodes were enlarged and reactive. Histology reported the were not cancerous. So think positive it may not be bad news. Keeping fingers crossed for you

Thank you so much for your kind response, and I’m glad to hear you’re doing well. I try not to worry, but you know how it goes, that dread in the back of your mind of not again… I’m trying to be positive and whatever it is, I’m a fighter and will get through it, whatever it is.Out of interest, what are they doing about your lymph nodes? Keeping an eye on them?

HI GillBo

It is understandable your concern and with any history of a cancer ,any new finding, for most, if not all of us will always be a worry until shown otherwise.

It could very well be infection or inflammation but it is good that they are acting on it quickly to ascertain what has caused the lymph node to be enlarged.

Hope you have an answer soon and if you would like to discuss anything you can either email us at lungcancerhelp@roycastle.org or call our free phone nurse led helpline number on 0800 358 7200 Monday to Thursday 0900-1700 and Friday 0900-1600

Kind regards

Thank you very much for your kind reply. I had my PET scan yesterday and had a call this morning asking me to come to an appointment with the consultant this Friday. Not going to lie, I am petrified at what they are going to tell me. I do know that they haven’t got my scan results back as I spoke to one of the nurses in the unit as I was so scared I rang her and she tried to calm me down. I’m hoping…

Hi GillBo

The waiting is the worst part and the not knowing, I would expect they would know your results by Friday when you attend your appointment.

It is good they are being thorough just to check all is well.

It is easy to say don't worry and wait and see, but when it is happening to you, the anxiety and worry is real and hopefully you should know what is going on by tomorrow. If you can try and distract yourself today, keep busy or talk to those you feel supported by.

If you would like to discuss anything after your appointment , you can either email us at lungcancerhelp@roycastle.org or call our free phone nurse led helpline number on 0800 358 7200

All the very best

Hope your ok and get results soon. I got told this week that I will only be getting non contrast ct scans yearly in the chest area as they don’t think it will spread. I wish I had there confidence. Keep positive so many targeted therapies now
