So we had an out of the blue call today from the doctors office and they said that they’d spotted a blood clot. We’re not sure exactly where but they did not say it was in the lung. They got dad to get some injections for mum which she will be taking for the next month. Sounds like we’re lucky that it did not move to a more dangerous place. In all of the panic, they’ve cancelled mums chemo treatment on Monday, to give time for the doctor to speak to mum. Is this normal procedure for this kind of situation? We hope the chemo can still be administered despite having this issue.

The medication that has been prescribed for her will be to thin the blood and stop the blood clotting.
Some Chemotherapy drugs can increase the chance of blood clots and it may be that they will put this on hold until your Mums clot disappears.
Am sure you will get some more information this week when the consultant speaks to your Mum and they will make a decision on when she can recommence her treatment.

Thank you. We heard from the consultant who wants to see mum in person this Thursday. We’re terrified it’s going to be bad news, I think that’s standard with the rollercoaster we’re on!
We hope it’s more to do with discussing how mum can go back on treatment now that the blood clot is being treated - she’s feeling really well and when treatment hasn’t worked it was just a phone call... now it’s about her seeing the doc in person.
It may be that they want to physically examine your Mum and that they feel satisfied that she can recommence her treatment.
Because of the restrictions that have been in place with not seeing the doctor at appointments, it can have the opposite effect of having increased anxiety that you can see them and it is not a telephone call.
It is encouraging that your Mum is feeling really well and to ease your mind you may wish to discuss this with the lung cancer nurse specialist and ask why the doctor wants to see your Mum and not a telephone call.
Many of the cancer services are trying to get back to normal as can be and for many doctors it is so important that they get to see and examine their patients.
It is understandable that you feel anxious and are worried at any stage of this cancer journey and hopefully it will all go well for you all.
