Hello there!!!

My dear mum has / had stage 4 small cell lung cancer..

She has had all her chemo and due to the cancer shrinking so much, they aren’t doing radiation to her chest, but preventative radiation to her brain.

I’m really worried as to how this is going to effect her.

Has anyone had the same treatment and came through well the other side???

Thanks so much for any much needed advice.

Emily x

Dear Emily

Sorry to hear about your Mum and how difficult this is for you all. It is good your Mum has had a positive response to the chemotherapy.

This link is from Cancer Research UK on small cell lung cancer including a section on preventative radiotherapy to the brain: cancerresearchuk.org/about-...

Hope all goes well for your Mum and if you wish to discuss anything you can call us on our Freephone nurse led helpline number on 0800 358 7200

All the very best

Emily I have wrote replies to you before. My wife has just had Radiotherapy after chemo but they done her Lung also. It was 8 blast to the head just for a preventative method. SCLC hides around the body and the brain is its favorite place. Your Mom will be fine. My wife also had 20 to the Lung. Expect a bit of fatigue.

God Bless Her

Yes you have and I appreciate the communication.

I hope your wife has much improved since we last spoke.

They haven’t done her chest as the tumour too small apparently??

Hopefully it is still contained.

Thank you - god bless

Hi. My mother has sclc. Had chemo then offered radiation to chest and head. I think the chemo was worse than radiotherapy. She suffered a feeling of a tightened elastic band round her head but this subsided. Just had a specialist meeting and still no growth - now 3yrs 5 months since diagnosis with extensive sclc treatable not curable. Scary but worth doing as sclc has tendancy to go to brain. Good luck!

That’s suck positive news. Thanks so much for sharing. They haven’t zapped her chest as they can’t see it anymore which is pretty incredible. Trying to stay positive x
