University College London (UCL) has asked me to circulate details of an opportunity with their centre as they design and develop research at their cancer trials centre.
They are looking to set up a group of 2-3 consumer/patient representatives to be involved in lung trials and have set 2 requirements -
1) personal experience of lung cancer or lung disease (or close association with a person who has experienced lung cancer or lung disease) and
2) interest and enthusiasm about being involved in the trials.
Previous research experience is not required.
They are offering an opportunity to learn about, contribute to and influence research in a number of ways (flexible for you), a mentor, appropriate training, choice in your level of involvement and payment for attending meetings, dialling in for conference calls and travel expenses. They will discuss what you're interested in and find areas that may be available for involvement.
If interested in finding out more, please contact Laura Farrelly on 0207 679 9876 or email l.farrelly@ucl.ac.uk
Please do let her know that you found about this on 'healthunlocked' as she is trying to work out the most effective means for reaching potential participants.
As somebody with no involvement in research until the late Lyn Barrington, patient advocate suggested this in late 2012, I can honestly say I have found my involvement since late 2013 stimulating, fascinating and led to not only increased knowledge and confidence but a genuine opportunity to give something back and help researchers understand the issues patients face and meet some wonderful people in the meantime. good luck.
